movies in PSX

Can anyone knows or accomplish watch movies in PSX? I mean movies are converted appropriate format and added to some game or rebuild entire game CD or smth. I think it's a great thing to watch long movies in PSX! Must I learn PSX game translation API for that purpose or there is an easier way?
Any succestions...

Re: movies in PSX

Yes, it is possible to play movie on the PSX. There are two options. One, get a VCD modchip, this allows you to play VCDs on the PSX. (any VCD emus are a hoax).
Two, (this one is tricky... very tricky) get the program "Avi2STR" and convert uncompressed avi files into .STR format. This part is very difficult, as most avi files are compressed. Next, you need to get a program which allows you to select your avi files on the PSX. This program (can't remember its name, but i have it somewhere) does not have a front-end and u must use the command-line. Finally, if you have managed to complete all of this, you convert your files into .bin and .cue files to burn to CD.
Beleive me, this is much more difficult than it sounds, and many-a-person has burnt several (many) perfect CD coasters. If you can manage this (which is definately more work than it is worth) you will have a maximum of 45 minutes worth of movie which you can play off your PSX.
For more info on the programs, and getting a tutroial (if you decide to give it a bash), just email me at my new address baldurs_gate_player@hotmail.com

Re: movies in PSX

or you can just get a DVD player that plays VCDs (most do, and are very cheap) then go to Nero and make a VCD that way...

Re: movies in PSX

yeah, i know he wants it in his playstation. but honestly, that's like trying to make some sort of contraption so you can make toast on your car's engine. seriously, just go down to the store and get a toaster.

same with this; instead of putting in tons of work to get VCDs to work in PSX or making your AVIs into .str files....just get a real VCD player.

Re: movies in PSX

Listen I know how to convert .str files and unless you have alot of time on your hands, you should stay simple. My only problem is getting the file to boot up, can anyone help me?

I know this is kinda old but if you use Totally_PSX way and then use a gameshark or similar cheat device that allows you to search for movie files it could theretically work if it was in a str format that the Gamesharks "Explorer" feature recognizes

[edit]
Well it seems that this method does not work as the Gameshark's Explorer Feature will not recognize the burnt CD-R media I use to burn some test .str files

It might recognize the cd-r media in a mod chipped PSOne but as far as a regular PSOne goes it doesn't work.

Even if you were able to get the media to work the video quality of the test .str files I made is crap

Files I used were Chrono Cross & Final Fantasy VII Intros converted from original discs using PSX Multi Converter into uncompressed AVI files and reconverted using Sony's tools.
[/edit]
