Controller Problems

I don't know if this is the right forum for this but I'm playing FFT and everything is going smoothly till I reach the point of where I get to choose my name. I can move the cursor around but I can't do anything else. My controller is working perfectly fine and everything. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this problem?

did u configure your controller in ePSXe?

set the controller to Digital in the gamepad menu

I fiddled with some settings and it seems to be working now. Thank you for your help.
