PSOne question

Well, saturday, something funny happened, the new-ex-BF (let's call him Joe) of my ex-sister-in-law (call her C) left her PSone (the real PSone, small, EU version) here at my home... she told me that it wasn't chipped, but it wasn't proved (at least she doesn't know)

then Joe played FF9 PAL (Original CD)... but an FMV crashed near the end of CD4 so he said "aaaaaaargh!"
/me: said Huh? what happened?
Joe: it crashed
/me: ok let's try something */me took my patched copy of FF9 PAL, opened the
console (not switched of), removed his CD, put mine in and closed*

The game un-crashed, the FMV continued and after a while, he finally saw the end, then he switched off the console, then On
I wondered what he was doing, so he tod me "just curious"...

Miracle, the copy booted and worked fine, so we tried with many games and only PAL ones boot (that's why he is playing with my copy off FF7 right now)

So here is my question:
How comes the PSOne reads and copy with the Eur country code? (even my Xenogears copy, since I changed the country code)
Is it a normal behavior for the PSone? or the console was chipped and C didn't know it?

PS: I know the rule, but I don't know if my post is in the "illegal discussion" category

Re: PSOne question

Heh. Well I would say its chipped. I mean its pretty much impossible for a psone to run a backup game without one. And it only does PAL games because its a PAL PSOne. So thats my theory.

AFAIK, and by experience -since I've played on more than 1 chipped PSX-, modchips overruns the Bios country code...
my neighbor has many Jap/US games on his PAL chipped PSX

Re: PSOne question

It runs PAL only (and NTSC games on which I changed the country code -eg. Xenogears)

Re: PSOne question

Since the PSOne is sold in Europe, and PAL is the TV standard in Europe, it seems no miracle to me that it plays European PAL games.

Re: PSOne question

LOL, what I'm trying to say is that it reads BURNED copies of PAL games (and NTSC ones with altered country code)

Re: PSOne question

Well my guess is either Sony made a HUGE mistake. Or he actually has a modchip in there. Sounds like he has a modchip. Maybe one of his friends or siblings got it in there and forgot to tell him.

"She", it's his ex-gf PSone
She bought it in a shop, it was a used console...
but still, if it's a modchip, why does it only run PAL games? others modchips runs foreign games too

Re: PSOne question

Not all modchips are the same. Although I would think most of them have that option since alot of people like to do that. But you never know. And SHE (sorry) bought a console with a modchip in it. Its odviouse. I guess either the modchip was tinkered with or its a different kind. Maybe it was cheaper so the previous owner cheaped out.

The only way to truly find out is to crack it open.

Re: PSOne question

Nah, it doesn't matter, I was just wondering...
but you must be right, it can be a cheap chip (hehe)
the good thing is that Joe can play my modified Xenogears on it

Re: PSOne question

All PAL games work on her PSX, but NTSC won't work if I don't modify the country code
