Re: svgs release date

like disturbed said, there is no such thing as svgs.
it is the brainchild of psxemu staff and friends for an april fools gag.
connectix has not yet stated whether they will release an update on vgs or not before the project is dropped..

Re: svgs release date

why do sony wouldn't want to release a new one?
console developer such as sony got most of their revenue
from royalty by game developer and they don't make money by selling the console(infact they lose money) and they use the gillete policy(give the razor free, make money on the blade)thing isn't it.

Like Bgnome said, its not a fact and you won't know for sure. If Sony do release a new version of VGS, you be slapping yourself on the face.

But knowing Sony like we all do, even though it is not a definate fact yet, it seems logical that Sony bought VGS to put a stop to it once and for all. I think that Disturbed has made a pretty safe assumption, though I will admit, I could be wrong. Sony has done stranger things in the past.
sincerely,

Cool

I think that the fact that it was proprietary had more to do with the death of Betamax, than marketing did. Sony might be the biggest electronics company, but when you have Philips, Toshiba, etc all against you, you're gonna lose. If Sony would have been willing to license the technology out, I doubt VHS ever would have come into being...

..... and now that I have come back from the dead, proprietary better watch out!!

To be serious though, they DID license it out!

Taken from Betamax Pal Web Site

Other than Sony, a number of other manufactures produced tapes for the betamax format.
Not all of these manufacturers sold their tapes in the high street and were bundled with new
VCRs. Brands such as Polaroid and Maxell were not available in all six tape length opting to
sell only the popular L-500 (2 hour) and L-750 (3 hour) variants.

Betamax tapes were available in the UK in the following brands BASF, Kodak, Maxell,
Memorex, NEC, Polaroid, Sanyo, Scotch, TDK and Toshiba.

Note Toshiba supported betamax. For more information check out www.palsite.com

Well, we all thought bleem! was dead (myself included), and then here comes bleemcast. A dissapointment, but at least we know that bleem! isn't dead.

Also, if I'm not wrong, Sony invented the CD. Correct me if I am wrong, as I only heard it as a rumor.

Cool

Well, I was actually referring to the VCR's themselves, not the tapes. However, according to that site, both Toshiba and Sanyo made Beta VCR's as well. I stand corrected.

So where did the common misconception that it was proprietary come from? I mean, if the 3 of the largest industry standard-setters are using it, it's not really proprietary!

I am not sure if Sony invented the compact disc or not but I am 100% sure that Sony invented the laser that reads the information on the compact discs.
