Removing the movie from the psx game tactics ogre

Im told that with the psx version of tactics ogre that the begining sequence that shows a short 3d movie of atlus as opening credits accounts for approximately 90% of the .bin's size.

How might I cut out this worthless space hog from the game?

My guess is taht the padding in the BIN is empty data. If you want to shrink the image, try compressing it using Mooby's plugin or PSXeven.

Won't a compressed file be slower? Either way how might I remove that beginning movie sequence? That way I can save space and load time.

Yes and no. Tactics Ogre doesn't do much reading from the CD anyway. Removing the movie would be a real pain, requiring you to edit the game 'executable' IIRC.

Well I think I could save alot of space if I did remove it. So how would might I go about doing as you mentioned? I wouldnt think it would be too hard to remove since its right at the beginning and not somewhere tangled in the middle of other code.

Re: Removing the movie from the psx game tactics ogre

IIRC, i once borrowed this game from a friend, and made the ISO to play it, using cdrwin.
The game had 2 tracks, the first DATA, and the 2 AUDIO.
I was impressed the game was only something like 20 or 30 Mb.
So i think its AUDIO files that are 90% of it, not the FMV.

well theres no voice overs and only so many music scores. No more then the normal snes version. Can't imagine its all audio. But for sure its bigger then it needs to be since its not much different then the snes version except its english and ~90mb instead of ~9mb (or some numbers like that)

Anyways theres only one way to be sure. And that is to take out that beginning FVM bit. Does anyone know how to do that? Would you please tell me?

Re: Removing the movie from the psx game tactics ogre

Look, AFAIK it's not a simple task to remove stuff like that. Yuo can try just editing the ISO and removing the file, but in all likelyhood you'll right royaly **** up hte game.
It should be irrelevant anyway, as you can just play it from the original game cd....

Maybe, if you create an empty-but-correct video file, and substitute the one in the ISO with the one you created, it might work... You'll need somethin like premiere to create the video, and some tool to convert it to PSX format (mdec).

the atlus movie file is 4mb in size. it's true that it can be replaced by a dummy file if you wanted.

However most of the space is taken up by two audio files. (Also there is the gamedata file UBF.BIN.) See here:

The only possible thing you could do is compress or resample them, followed by hacking executable to compensate for your changes.

Re: Removing the movie from the psx game tactics ogre

Well, here i used cdrwin to make the ISO.
It presented me with 2 or 3 tracks, cant remeber correctly.
I made the ISO using only the DATA track, and the game ran perfectly....
U can try too, since the shareeware version of cdrwin aloow u to make ISO´s just fine....
