I'm pretty new to PSX emulation. I have tried VGS, ePSXE, and PCSX. I did not care for VGS all that much. And considering it's been bought up by Sony so they could stop development I'll drop that one. But with ePSXE, PCSX, and even the new PSXeven, what's the big difference to choose one over the other? I'm just wondering since they all can use the same plugins, what makes one better then the other? I guess also, are my specs close to optimal for decent PSX emulation? I get lots of stutters that seem to stem from my CD-Rom (if that possible?!?) I have a TDK 48x12x48 IDE. Or is there a specific CD plugin (or plugin set, ie. video, sound, and CD) that would work better for me? Thanks for any input. Just trying to figure out which way to go now that my interest has been peeked.

damn ePSXe fanboys! j/k Each PSX Emulator offers some perk that makes it stand out..but mostly it's user preference or system capability.... ePSXe has good compatibility and a wealth of features such as Rumble, Guncon, and Kailera support. The emulator however comes with a standard controller plugin that requires 7.0a (won't effect you)..somewhat CPU intensive (Won't effect you), and although it comes with a configuration wizard, the user interface requires you to know some line commands and setting changes for certain games...as mentioned you could use another Frontend program with it to make it easier to use. PCSX also has good compatibility. A good "go to" emulator if a game fails to run on ePSXe. The user interface is simpler to use, allows various controller plugins, and can utilize it's own internal BIOS (just in case you don't have access to the PSX Bios). It is far less demanding CPU wise, and sports many of the same features as ePSXe. PSXeven is the new kid on the block with good compatibility. It sports one of the best user interfaces that can be changed from beginner to advanced which is perfect for people new to psx emulation. It also has a built in ISO maker and other unique features. It is a new release so who knows what else Xeven will make it do AdriPSX also has good compatibility and a unique simple to use interface that can be changed from beginner to advanced. The interface can also be changed to various languages, has a unique save state option that automatically loads with a click of your mouse, is one of the least CPU intensive emulators capable of running on the slowest of systems. FPSE is another emulator with good compatibility. It sports one of the worst user interfaces, but offers unique features not capable on other emulators. This emulator is capable of running on an old 486 computer and even palm pilots. PSinex is the last entry. It is the most CPU intensive but offers good compatibility. It has a decent amount of features and a simple to use interface. The layout is also skinable ![]() Try them and see what works for you.. |

zerocopy, thanks for the advice, that did solve all the stuttering for FF7! very cool. Dark Watcher, thanks for the info for each of those EMU's. I think I'll do what you suggest and just try them out. PSXeven, for me, has been very easy to use. Very slick GUI. Last question (I think) What is the preferred version of the PS BIOS to use? Just wondering which is "best" or "better" to use. I understand the latest is not always the greatest or is that wrong?

SCPH7502 and SCPH1001 are recommanded by the ePSXe team, SCPH7502 is the most compatible, for video use Pete's OpenGL 1.68 plug-in it will work the best for your GF4TI4200, use Eternal SPU 1.30 for the best sound, use Xeven or P.E.oP.S. CDR plug-in

Thanks to everyone for all the input. After a little testing I think I like PSXeven the best. I have not found any of my games so far that don't work. Also using the PSXeven CD plugin, I was able to play FF7 without making it an ISO. thanks again for all the help.
