ppf patches
i'm confused about this idea of ppf patches. i'm having trouble running ff8 and i'm pretty sure it's because i'm missing the correct patch... however all the patches on the ngemu site has pal versions of the patch, and i own the us version. is there i was i can get around that? the problem is, i start the game without the patch and it shows the"licensed by spuare electronic arts" screen and just freezes. i downloaded the uk pal patch and put it in the patch folder... and i got the same results. this also happens if i try running it straight off the cd.

Uk patches only work with uk disks. Epsxe's ppf system will ignore those files as it is a different game. However this is academic as the US version does not require patches of any kind to run. That logo screen is simply damn slow due to its high resolution.

if you are using Pete's OpenGL please enable Direct Frame Buffer updates (which is a new option available in version 1.66...specifically made for ff8).
Or, if you are using D3D, please enable Unfiltered Framebuffer Updates.
