directx vgs problem

When attempting to run VGS under W2K I get an error.

I'm using the VGS video patch I got from aldostools.com with Sapus W2K/XP fix checked off.

Any ideas?

Why don't you try running Sapu's cvgsrun instead of Aldo's video patch?

Same error. I've been meddling with everything, patching unpatching, switching around the .dlls, fiddling with the settings in aldos vid patch, it just doesnt want to work, havent a clue why.

A mistake a lot of people seem to make is calling the VGS on XP Patch a Patch, I know that sounds strange but listen on. It is more like a launcher, you have to click on the CVGSRUN to launch VGS. My prefered option is dragging and dropping the VGS.exe onto the CVGSRUN.exe, that way you do not need a tnxfs.dat file in your temp folder which is great for me as I have my VGS patched to play Final Fantasy 9 and it does not create the dat.

Dragging and dropping the patched_vgs exe or the vgs with the vivi icon onto the cvgsrun.exe file results in the same error pictured above.

Personally I'm foxed then as you have reinstalled DirectX and your Video Drivers. Since you have Windows 2000 and Windows 98 on your computer just run VGS in 98.

No, actually, this error happens randomly when i use VGS in windows 98, so its nothing to do with the Patch. Simplly, just install direct X again and reboot your computer and the problem will be solved!

I did read his posts carefully,...he did reintall Direct X, but he didnt reboot. I tried that myself. You have to reboot, so that settings can take changes...........

edit: Dont run vgs after installement is over. Run it after rebooting the system.........,

Of course I rebooted after installing DirectX, I rebooted all sorts of times last night trying to get it to work.

Once I got the an Insert Game CD message - I think it was right after i installed directx and rebooted (I was using a backup and forgot to checkoff the backup CD option). So when I get home I think i'll try that, reinstalling directx, booting, and remebering to check off the backup cd fix.

Using cvgsnt run from sapus page caused my puter to crash/reboot instantly a few times, but most of the time cvgs loads with the same error. No idea what this is about.

Yeah I could just run under win98 but my win98 is giving me all sorts of problems and i can't just reinstall it since i dont have the original CD - I have a hard disk image backup that came with my computer and there is no way to just reinstall 98.

Really scratching my head over this one - my computer works fine otherwise I don't have any stability problems or errors loading other games or emulators.

hmm,......okay, this might sound weird, but what version of DirectX are you installing? I got that error message 20 tiems before, and each time, i used to install DirectX 8.1 and reboot my computer, and VGS would run as normal. Believe me, its nothing to do with the VGS patch, It just lets WinXp treat VGS as a win32 file.

Last night I downloaded and installed 8.1 from microsoft.com/directx.

Sounds like you have encountered the same problem, do you still have to reinstall directx and reboot everytime you want to use vgs under xp?

okay,....i used to have this problem when i used my old computer under windows 98. All i had to do is Install directX again and reboot immedialty ( its very important to reboot immedialty, because if you dont, nothing will change). Now i am using winxp, i dont face any type of problems with vgs, or even its video patchs,...

I can tell you it definitely works in W2K though, I didn't even have to upgrade the DX... and I was using Advanced Server to boot.

Shiori, from my previous experience, i can tell you that this is a bug in VGS itself,.....it sometimes doesnt recognize DirectX for some reason. As for Win2k, I have the latest Video Patch from Aldo's site and VGS works perfectly!!

In regards to a copy of Windows 98 I too only had a restore disk supplied with my HP CD, after doing a little digging on my Hard Drive I found that setup has copied the Windows setup files to the hard disk at this location C:\Windows\Options\Cabs I just burnt these files to disk and I had a Windows 98 Disk. All versions of windows do this. Also check c:\Windows\Options\Install
