Ok, we all know that the PS2 is backward compatible with PS1 games, because its supposed to have the old 32-bit PS1 CPU in it or something like that. Anyway, I was wondering, if that's the case, would it be possible to have the PS2 BIOS actually interface and run emu's like ePSXe just like a PS1 BIOS would? No, I'm not so stupid as to think that that would give ePSXe the ability to play PS2 games; I'm just curious as to how far that backward compatibility can be abused. It'd be an interesting experiment, nonetheless, seeing ePSXe running, say, FF9 using the PS2 BIOS. And why, you ask? Just to see if we can. Why would we care if it does? So we could put those already-existing PS2 BIOS images that are floatin' around on the 'net to some use!

No one even knows for sure if those dumps are real and not some dummy files. SCPH-10000 is "supposed" to be 4 MB, yet the "SCPH-18000 BIOS" is as big as a PSX BIOS.

Well, unfortunately I'm gonna be gone for the next two weeks, so I'm not gonna be able to test this theory out soon anyway. Let's just say my family picked a real lousy time for a vacation, and it's even interfering with my regristration for college. So, if anyone does decide to try it out, or has information on whether or not it could work, I'll be looking forward to catching up on it two weeks from now.

i have seen apps that will dump a ps2 bios but i havent tried them yet.. so i would assume that there would most likely be some real bios images out there..

from my knowledge NO the playstation 2 has two chips [i.e. two BIOSes] one is the ps2 bios and the other is just a hash of the BIOS thats on the PS-ONE [the compact version of PSX] so there fore having a ps2 BIOS will not give you capability to play PSX games
