Question what color depth does VGS use?

Does VGS run games in 16 bit color depth or 32 bit color depth or whatever color depth the desktop is on?

I don't know which depth VGS runs natively, but with some patches (from Aldo's page) you can choose the screen resolution and the color depth.

It definitely doesnt run in 32 bit (coz my card doesnt support it).
So it should be 16 bit.

use epsxe? it supports vgs memory card files and can use software video plugins.

Huh ?? Nice advice... but he never said a word about having a problem with cvgs. He must be using epsxe as well (I hope he is). He was just asking a simple question.

I really believe its 16-bit because around then gaming hardware back thenwas barely breaking 256 colors and VGS emulates the PSX without extra features (such as a higher color depth table to work with)

The in-game depth is 16 bit. Mdecs at 24 bit (or 32 if your card don't suport 24 bit). Disabling hi-res mdecs makes vgs play them at 16 bit too.

PSX can go up to 640x480, but normally is at 320x240 or similar.

CVGS was released early in 1999 for Mac platform (Read CVGS announcement here), but Sony tried to stop the selling shortly after its release. On February 11, 2000 Connectix wins in Court (read here) and proceeded to launch VGS for PC which was being ported when all the legal problem started (read about VGS development here). Approximately in the first week of March, 2000 the PC version of VGS 1.3 was released for retail sales.

Two addional versions were released (1.4 and 1.4.1) before Sony acquired CVGS on March 14, 2001 (read more here)
