i agree with ohmybaby, and im pretty sure most people will. ePSXe is the best emulator. Supports a huge variety of games, and has online capabilty. Try this emulator out.

imo is the epsxe .... use the pete's plugin or the glide plugin from lewpy if you are using a voodoo card.... epsxe has a nice internal cdrom plugin and also a good internal spu plugin.... my recomendation is try all the plugin by yourself

well that would be depending on what console emulator

for PSX, the champ would be ePSXe
for Genesis, GEN is still the most active one
for SNES, ZSNES would be in the lead

However it is depending on your computer's power, if you have a built in display card (I means you have a less power computer), it is hard to using ePSXe to run ps games. I experienced it. I suggest use VGS. Less configuration/setting for beginner and yes it run quite smooth but it was a commercial one.

Most compatible--- Epsxe/Cvgs.
Best looking--- All plugins based emus.(epsxe supports more games)
Fastest--- Adripsx (comparing with plugin based emus).

Plugins.

video--- If you have d3d or opengl supporting card go for pete's plugin.If you have a 3dfx card (voodoo) go for lewpys plugin.If you have none of them go for peops(soft plugins).

sound--- If you have a very fast processor go for eternal,for avg.fast processor go for eternal lite,otherwise use internal sound plugin or pete's dsound.

if you want speed rather than graphics. try vgs and bleem. but if you're into both.just go with plugin based emu like ePSXe and pcsx.
