psx + n64

I remember a while back when nintendo and sony was working together on a console. I saw some pictures of a cd player under a snes. Anyway, things got messed up and they stop working together, and sony made psx and nintendo n64.
What im going with all this is, if anyone knows why they stopped the co-op?
Its pretty long since it happend and there was little info too i think.
Still, if anybody knows a bit more of this.
Hmm, would been sweet having nintendo and sony working together :nod2:

I think it was because the Big N wanted to stick to cartridges for FFVII... which Sony was opposed to afaik.

the 64 dd is a n64 add on, and as for sony and nintendo, nintendo scrapped the addon project cuz cds were just too slow at that time. and nintendo has a gamer in mind so they stuck w/ cartridges. so nintendo went w/ phillips instead and somehow nintendo foiled another cd attempt and went back to sony and left again, and so sony is bitter and launched the psx (the psx used to be the same as snes except its cd, but later changed and made better due to copyright issues).

Finally Nintendo realized its mistake and switched to DVDs.
The Future for Nintendo can only get better (not that it ever was that bad).

sony is only a hardware maker (crappy at that too). while nintendo is a software and hardware house. sony is living only because of 3rd party publishers. sony did make attempts in making games like LOD but it was mediocre in my opininon. m$ xbox is dying because of practically little 3rd party support. while nintendo haven't really made any moves trying to steal all of sony's 3rd party developers (except for maybe capcom). a new console wars started and the winner is either sony or nintendo.

I think sony is more likely to win because the PS2 came out before Nintendo's Gamecube and most people will buy only one console.
So Sony has a big advantage.
But even if Sony is more successful (again), Nintendo will survive (because it has a solid fanbase) and the next console wars will start in a few years.
Probably only with Sony and Nintendo because Sega failed as a hardware maker and I don't think MS will build another console after the X-Box desaster (although it was planned).

I'd really like to see Nintendo return to its former glory

Well Nintendo will keep staying alive as long as they keep making the games as good as they do. If you think about it, there is little games that Nintendo have made that is bad, u might not like the type of game, but they rarerly make bad games. And old timers that have been around since the days of the nes is strong fans. Still, for my part, the games can get a bit cute and childish, but not so much that i cant play it
Anyways, Nintendo is the reason im a gamer, and i think il stay with em to the end

you are digging back into some video game history...

back in 1988 when nintendo began designing the super famicom (snes) they had plans to also bring out a cdrom (courtsey of sony). The relationship between sony & nintendo was soo good at the time that sony even developed the sound processor for the super famicom. Anyways, in late 1992 nintendo did the unthinkable, they ditched sony at the last second, scraping nearly 4 years of work for Phillips (a non-japanese company) and thier CDi format. Not only was this a spit in the eye for sony but was also an irreversable stab in the back...
After that, sony and nintendo went their seperate ways...sony went on to develop the playstation based on their R&D of the super famicom CDROM.
And Nintendo, well, they kinda screwed themselfs technology wise, because the CDi format was a compelete flop...and since sony holds most of the patent's to CDROM technologies. Nintendo, had to look for an alternative development medium...in this case cart format for N64 was still a viable option. But by the time N64 came out cart format was already outdated.

fortunately, here we are in 2002 and there are newer formats (namely DVD) which nintendo can (and did) implement into their product designs...so nintendo is lives on once again.

Actually liquid Nintendo still could've of used Cd's in N64. But the cd's at that time were too slow. So nintendo used cartridges instead (a really dumb idea). I mean this one single fact killed nintendo because Square left them because of this.

Nintendo 4

cuz people are somehow atracted to names

Geforce
Geforce 2
Geforce 3
Geforce 4

also goes w/ the pentiums
