CVGS NT and MDECs.....
Whenever there's an MDEC sequence playing, I noticed there's a LOT of hard disk activity, causing it to pause without warning and/or skip. Has anyone else noticed the same thing, or is it just me?
Specs are in profile.

yeah, it occured for me too while trying ff7 and ff9...
now i have a much bigger problem. i can't seem to run VGS at all anymore. it worked this morning but now it doesen't seem to work. here's what I do: 1. i create a map call vgs141. 2. i extract the vgs emulator and the patch (cvgs_nt) in the same directory as the emulator. 3. i run the cvgs_nt but all i get is an error saying i must have a p2 or higher to run the program. i have a p4 but it doesent work. it worked this morning but not anymore. i've tried things like to put the thnfx.dat (or what it calls) in the temp diectory in windows (i tried also to put it in the sytem32 directory) but with no use... can anyone help me? it's strange that it worked a couple of hours ago but not now... it could have happened when i installed a ff9 patch to the emulator (i thought) but when i deleted the emulator i patched and extracted the vgs again in the same directory i get the same message... ![]() -C_CliFF

Try to do a clean install of VGS without patching. I heard Aldo will release a new patch soon for P4 users.

I'm having some problems as well. There seems to be a fair amount of stuttering (with occasional pausing) and I have some problem with the controls in FF9. I doesn't work nearly as well as in Win 9x. Maybe things will improve with the next release. I haven't tried it with an ISO yet though, maybe that'll improve things.

Darn.. well, there never was any difference running an ISO with VGS anyways, it always ran perfectly with CDs. Still, we're lucky enough even to be able to run it in NT. Kudos to SaPu!

I'm extremely happy with the progress, but I'm not happy at all with where it is. I think this patch is quite unstable and needs more work.
But then, I'm sure it's partly Microsoft's fault. WinXP has a hard time running a lot of programs smoothly. Some programs can't even play midi files smoothly in WinXP, but they work fine in Win9x. Last edited by BeauxQ; July 17th, 2002 at 01:01. |

Well, NT was designed to be a business OS and never had good gaming support. With Windows 2K and XP they managed to get DirectX working but it doesn't perform as well as 9x (at least for me). Epsxe on Direct3D runs very slowly in XP on my computer compared to OpenGL. In Win9x they're both relatively the same. MS had previously given up on DX for NT (since it's a direct violation of the HAL) but somehow managed to get it working in 2K.
