Boom adapter w/ PSX DS controller?????

Why doesn't my rumble work with the controller. It's the controller that lets you hook up a N64 and a PSX controller at the same time. For some reason it won't rumble. Is there something that I'm not doing in the controller input screen? I have Direct X set and the motor set to constant for both. What does Constant and Sine mean anyway. I was also thinking that maybe the rumble feature isn't compatible but that seems unlikely. Thanks for the help!!

Win XP Pro
1.4 AMD Athlon
