Is there an Playstation 2 emulator?
I've seen loads of ps2 roms on ftp:s
But never an emu

Is there an emu, If not what are those roms for?:confused:

there is no publicly available emulator. these "roms" are for modchipped consoles..

Yes! I'm in the process of making an entire series of fake ps2 emus!

Starting with FPS2E! Fake Playstation 2 Emulator! (This isn't a jab at FPSE, so don't try it!)
Then, I'll go to URAMPS2, which stands for You Are A Moron Playstation 2.
Finally.. As my final gift to the emulation scene.. I'll release CiH-PS2. Figure it out.

Hi I just wanted to ask what is a mod chipped ps2? And why have ps2 roms afterall you can't backup dvds as yet. Also any real news on the ps2 emulator front. Thanks.

first, a mod chip is added to bypass the PS2's country selection code allowing both foriegn and back ups to run on the ps2. you can get a similar chip for the play station

second, if you have the money, you can back up dvd's for about 1500+ US$ :eek: for the burner and 20+ US$ for the blank dvd its just not as economical to get a dvd burner

finaly, i cant remember where i read it but not every ps2 game is dvd based some of them are still cd based

Actually, Pioneer just released the OEM version of the first DVDr internal drive, and they said the retail version will sell for $1000 (It's pretty cool... Reads/Writes CDr's, CDRW's, and DVDr's, and of course reads DVD's and CD's). They say the price will drop a few hundred dollars once the mass-production of them starts. If Sony ever gets their DVD-RW drive off the ground, the competition will surely lower the price even more... The cost of the media will probably drop drastically as drives become more main-stream, also.

Yep, in fact, IIRC, of the US launch titles for the PS2, only one was on DVD, and many of the new ones are still on CD as well.

Evil Sony will probably put something into their DVD drive so that if you burn a PS2 game, then the DVD-R drive will somehow recognize it and screw up the CD-R or DVD-R

I know that Sony brand CD-R's don't work so well on a modded Playstation (sometimes they won't even boot up!)

Don't think that ps2 emulator will come soon... maybe after 3 years there is even little use for it ... not everyone got 2GHz CPU & DVD drive

I know of a playstation 2 emulator but it is most likely fake considering its name is EKAF(Fake backwards) I haven't tried it too bad of a computer and couldn't find any of those roms...

I would also assume that it is fake
I havent tested it but am d/l it right now but they dont give much info about the emu other than that its a PS2 emu . they dont even give system specs to run the program

In their readme they say and I quote
"Minimum Requirements:
32Meg+ Video Card
128Megs RAM (minimum, may experience undesired operation
with less)
PIII 550 (bare minimum)"
That's too beefy for me.
I downloaded it just to look at it.

erm, I used Sony CD-Rs for nearly a year, anytime they wouldn't boot up my PSX, would be a user-error...

Has anyone tested out ekaf emulator? Yes I know the efak -fake thing but it is a rather large program and if it is a hoax they have gone to a rather large effort (look at the web site http://ekafemulator.virtualave.net) .

It's hoax....for christ's sake, it loads 'roms' with the .ps2 extension!
I can't possibly tell you how many things are wrong with that right there...

Hey, I don't know what's wrong with that. In fact, if anyone here wants, I'll sell them as many PS2 roms with that extension, as they want! Only $5 a piece. What a bargain!!!!
