Question can't get it back to 320 * 240 res. (FF9)

The resolution 640 * 480 seems to the set default after I patched it VGS in order to get FF9 working. However In that resolution there are some slowdowns. (in Alexandria on disc 3 the town square seems to cause lag, casting bahamaut, firaga and flare seems to cause 1-2 second pauses) Is there anyway I can set the resolution back to 320 * 240 and still play FF9 perfectly??

My comp specs again:

AMD Athlon K7V 840mhz
128 MB SDRAM
50x cd (ran game from ISO on HD actually)
Voodoo3 2000 16mb 146mhz
Sound blaster live

Is Voodoo3 2000 bad with software rendering?? Some of you had a cpu speed of 500mhz seems to have FF9 running full speed at ALL times throughout the game and with no pauses. I wanna use software cause I like the transistions and swirl effects at full speed.

Your reply would be appreciated
thanks.
