Unhappy Using Emulators Thru Virtual OS

I have Windows Professional XP installed on my PC. I previously had Windows 98 ME, on which I used Bleem v.15b and Virtual Game Station v1.4.1 Now, since i have XP, these emulators dont work. I have epsxe too, but that doesnt run the games as smoothly as VGS and Bleem. So I used VMWare as the OS Emulator and ran Win98 inside it. I properly installed Bleem and VGS on the virtual OS ie.Win98, but they arent still working. I have installed the latest DirectX drivers for them too. Bleem gives an invalid page fault and VGS says that it couldnt configure my video drivers. It suggests that I either install the latest DirectX drivers(which I have ie.8.0a) or get the latest drivers for my video card. But VMWare Tools has only a limited support of graphics. It supplies its own drivers for the card( I have a 32Mb 3d card), which arent sufficient for VGS. Plz help me in how to make both VGS and Bleem work.

VMWare will only support your graphics card as a S3 Virge IIRC, no matter what graphics card you have, sorry.

Unhappy So now what?

is s3 Virge IIRC a 3d card, coz if it is then vmware does support 3d graphic cards? also, i have a 32mb nividia tnt2 rivet card, can it be recognized as the s3 card thru vmware? does virtual pc support 3d accelerator card graphics?

I think running VGS on virtual pc (assuming it works) would only start to become interesting if you have a 2ghz processor or so...in which case it's smarter to simply run ePSXe. Also, isnt XP a little slow on a p2 350?

Anyways, the best solution would still be ePSXe here; running VGS through an emu will be slower, even if it works.

They both see whatever graphics card you have as a Virge, which has basicaly no 3d hardware support, so VMWare/VirtualPC do not support 3d graphics.

Xp runs quite good on a Celeron 300 providing you have at least 128Mb of ram.

it will be a waste having a dual boot system, just to use bleem and vgs. also, epsxe doesnt run all games smoothly, infact only a selected few run smoothly. most of the games on epsxe run in slow motion. i have tried all kinds of conf for epsxe with the help of forums, but no noticeable result. i never used epsxe until bleem and vgs became incompatible with xp. no emu emulates psx games better than bleem and vgs. so if anyone has successfully ran bleem or vgs on vmware using any win 9.x os, plz let me know?

Seems to me this is a case of not tweaking ePSXe enough. While I agree that in some respects VGS is superior to ePSXe (compatibility), but IMHO ePSXe is hands down better than bleem!.

Even if you could get VGS and/or bleem! running in VMWare, the fact that you only have a P2-350, coupled with *no* HW acceleration available in VMware, you'd probably end up running games as slow (or maybe even slower) with what you're experiencing with ePSXe now. Running an emulator within an emulator can be hazardous to your sanity

And having said that.... which detonator driver are you using for the TNT2 card? Also, do you know what kind of MoBo you have?

ePSXe emulates far better than Bleem or VGS IMO. ePSXe just has higher system requirements. To be honest, VMWare will keel over on your machine even if it could run VGS, it would run like a slug. Your best bet is Dual boot.

I tried running an old DOS game in DOS6.0 with Virtual PC and VmWare and they were both quite slow. I don't understand it? My system isn't that bad!

I found it slow too. It's not designed for games playing tho, so I'm not that surprised.

ok, now since i realize that vgs and bleem cant be used on a virtual os. could u plz help me in running epsxe properly on xp? I have a P-II 350Mhz, 128Mb RAM using a 32Mb Nvidia TNT2 Rivet card with Detonator 3. My epsxe v1.5.1 settings are:-
Video: Pete's Soft Driver 1.52
Sound: epsxe SPU core 1.5.0
CD-Rom: epsxe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.1
Bios : SCPH1001.BIN
Yet my games run in slow motion on epsxe except for pe2, which i still havent got a save slot near the cafeteria

in pete's soft driver you can select the display device. Default it says "primary display device" but if you can change that to "tnt2" or something similar it could solve a few refresh-rate problems which could make games run smoother.

why dont u use peopsSoft plugin...they are more compatible and faster for me...u can also try using peteogl plugin because it is the best for nvidia card and considering the speed of your cpu soft plugin is not suitable for you...

Have you tried Pete's D3D 6 driver? It tends to work better on TNT/2's. Also try using Eternal's Lite SPU, or the Internal one.
Another way to get speed up is to disable the sound...
