PSX Controller to PC Mod.. Pictures Inside *56kers Beware*
I went about spending about 20 bucks on supplies and tools, and wasted a good nights rest on this project with no successful results. I did EVERYTHING as instructed, not only from the AllTechBox guide, but from 2 others. From my point of view, everything is correct. One question regarding the construction tho.. Take a look at this pic. Now did i solder the diodes to 1 wire right? Or was i explicatly supposed to wire the one wire to ONE diode, then the rest of the diodes to that one central diode, as pictured in the scematics??? ![]() Heres other pics of the current project. Take notice im using an actual memory card/controller module taken from a PSX. I desoldered the back PCB so no problems would arise due to the traces. ![]() ![]() Aight, onto the next set of questions... Sorry for such a long post, i really wanna get this working. Now, My current PC specs are.. -1.2ghz cpu -MSI board -Hercules Fortissimo 2 sound card (game port on this may be a problem) -WinXP Pro I also downloaded and installed the latest NTPadXP v1.05 And im using a standard PSX controller (no feedback) Installed everything, goto controller options, and everything looks great, but when i press any buttons nothing is happening, i cant calibrate or anything. Ive already tried the little "install standard game port and modify" trick but it still doesnt work. I've tried uninstalling/disabling the Fortissimo's game port as well. Heres the dialog box, notice how it looks as if all buttons are being pressed (ON). ![]() Whew! Thnx for reading, and thnx to anyone that can help I really want this working. |

ok, like i said before, check to see what the point of view on the diagram is: looking into male or looking into female. this is the most common problem. secondly, check for shorts. from the above pic, it looks like pin 12 is kinda sketchy. and you must be careful not to burn out your diodes. you seem to have connected them quite close to the solder pad so i would check each one.

yea pin 12 looks like its crossed from teh pic but it isnt.. i was wondering about the diodes, imm have to desolder them and resolder a set of new ones.. also, one thing i forgot to ask was... about the ground wire.. i noticed theres a ground pin on the module above pin 6 i think it is.. im pretty sure thats the ground right? If so, then do i wire that ground pin to the DB-25 metal casing(ground)? |

most diagrams ive seen usually reccomend soldering to pins 18 and 19 for the ground connection but i dont see why the casing would be a bad idea. maybe later ill double check my dpadpro/playsaver and see if your wiring is correct.

okay.. hmm looks like imma have to try the power suppply now.. i was hoping i didnt need one since im using a standard controller, and i dont more wires all over the place.. hmm. but i did desolder and resolder new diodes and **** last night but still nothing. So you think i should make the ground wire from pin 18 and 19 go to the casing and pin 6 to the casing on the module? |

I built this project about 2 years ago and am still using it with the ntpad driver. First thing to check is your parallel port setting in the BIOS, make sure it is standard port, not ECP or EPP. I never use a power supply, I don't like force feedback on gamepads. Your pic looks ok. The easiest thing to get wrong is the numbering of the PSX pins i.e. wiring pin 1 as pin 9 etc. Your pin 9 to 12 is correct, but I can't see the colours on the other wires. This is the diagram I used (monospaced font required!); ========================= | o o o | o o o | o o o | (male - looking into the end of a PSX controller) \_____________________/ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ========================= | o o o | o o o | o o o | (female - front view of PSX) \_____________________/ 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Controller Parallel ---------- -------- 1 - DAT --> 10 2 - CMD <-- 2 3 - 9V (shock) 4 - GND 18,19 5 - 5V 5,6,7,8,9 through diodes 6 - SEL <-- 3 7 - CLK <-- 4 8 - 9 - ACK --> 12 I used a controller extension lead myself, that way you only have to solder 1 end... |
