A question about PSX framebuffer effects and GeForce3 chipsets
Now, I don't know if this question has been asked before, so I'll ask it anyway.
Would using the GeForce3's nFiniteFX engine solve some of those hard-to-emulate framebuffer effects (like Motion blur, Swirly-Screen, etc.) problems? Here's my train of thought on this: I've heard about how since PSX and PC architecture is different enough to where rather easy to do effects on the PSX require major horsepower on PC's to pull off. Then, I hear about the nFiniteFX engine, which to me sounds like you can essentially program your own effects into the GF3 hardware. Now, if someone was able to program, say, the Swirl Effect from FF9 into the nFiniteFX engine, wouldn't that seriously cut down on the horsepower requirement? You would think that would allow only one needed call to the hardware for the swirl effect, instead of what's being done currently.

Don't think it will be useful. Do not trust advertisements. Even PC game programmers will think twice about using something that is not portable to other platforms and other videocards. CPU is the best engine for emulating anything
And these "hard" effects are really easy to emulate.Sorry for bad english |

I don't think pixel and vertex shaders would be of that much use to be honest, and like E}I{ said, plugin authors aren't likely to use stuff like that if it won't work on more than 20~30% of machines.
