Question Is a stand-alone PSX music player possible?

And how about a PSX music extracter?

Question

...More exactly, is it possible to extract FFIX's music from the FF9.img on each disc.

PsxMC can read the media from FFIX. But not directly from and image, so you'll have to mount it using Daemon Tools.

Man...
On each FF9 disc, there is a file called FF9.img which contains all the game data except the FMVs. That's not the image of the disc...

I want to know if there are tools that can extract the music files from that file like some softwares which can extract the BIK movie files from the PAK files on FF8-PC's discs.

I want the music, but all it has found are movie files that I can find myself.

Qhimm has FF8 movie extractor that you asked for. As for the music in FF9, most of it is synth, and can't be extracted.

There's no telling if music files even exist, they could very well compiled into the binaries. If SEQ files are buried in there somewhere, then you still need the SPU RAM contents for the voices themselves. There's an SEQ to MIDI convertor available, but it will sound very messed up with an incorrect waveset (unless the game is very close to GM standard and you have an excellent waveset yourself)..
You can record the ADPCM sequenced music in Eternal SPU (as well as Andy's SPU), and there's a small utility out there that will let you play them back using any SPU. All the utility does is use a load state function on the SPU to load the SPU RAM and registers saved at the time, and feeds it new register changes to produce music. The files are very large but should compress.. reasonably. There is also a MIDI conversion utility for those files included. Same stipulations apply.

I can't really help you very much to find these.. look on Eternal SPU's homepage. It's in Japanese, so consider yourself warned. The best someone will be able to do in the future, I imagine, is a utility that can convert SPU RAM to a usable soundfont, and then the MIDIs might sound okay.

Thank you, but I think what I have said is "I want an FF9's music extractor".

Thank you all the same.

(And I think the music of FF8-PC are stored in sgt format and need not to be extracted.)
