Use ePSXe instead, and always use software gpus like PEOpS when playing these games.

[edit] what's with the sudden surge of interest in Tokimemo anyway?

You've started a craze Shiori. I'd play it too if I had an English or Engrish translation.

Well it's not that hard... there are some guides/menu translations for both TM1 and TM2 on the net.... also, it's a great way to learn conversational japanese, as ALL of the dialogue in TM2 are spoken (no wonder it's 5 CDs! )

Can I claim credit to having started this recent spark of interest? I admit, Shiori's been into it way ahead of me though.

Anyway, trying to order the game is pretty difficult. Good luck Lord Kane.

There are still guides to TM2 in the net? The excellent one made by DokiWaku has long since been shut down, and nobody bothered to mirror it unfortunately.

Your best bet is ePSXe, xephiroth. You've got save states to boot, which can be a great time saver. Less hassles that way.

Steven Chan's FAQ was recently submitted to gamefaqs a few days ago. You might want to see that, as it contains most of the special events in the game.

I guess its so interesting cause its a different game than what most people are used to. I wouldn't mind playing it just to see how its like. I saw somewhere that there was a translation for a SNES version of it right? What's the progress on that?

Ask Shiori. The TM2 expert should know!

J2E's site has been down since late january, So I'm kinda left in the dark too. But last time I saw it it was 50% translated already....and that was the status for December. I'm sure there's been progress since then.

[edit] ah, the site's up again.... but there's no update still from necro.

Tokimemo on VGS

Have to play Tokimeki Memorial on VGS, because I can't get the lipsync to work on ePSXe (I've posted about that on a different topic, so no need to mention ePSXe-related stuff here).

I also ran into the menu problems. The whole thing goes as follows:

1. Pick name, birthdate, etc. no prob.

2. Prologue has missing background and some other graphics glitch. Text boxes have no borders. Anything which comes "out-of-screen" leaves a trail. However, lipsync works, which is very good! :nod2:

3. Into the game... Messed up backgrounds. Menu and cursor have disappeared. Game becomes nigh impossible to play. However, I decide to continue, since I can still press the menu buttons, even though I can't see them.

4. Sports Day comes up, think it was in June. The graphics return to normal, game is perfectly playable.

Duh... With a bit of experimenting I found out a way around the bug so that You don't need to waste two months waiting for the Sports Day. Do as follows:

1. Start new game, and do all the things You need to do.

2. As soon as You get into the game itself, try to save. Yeah, it's hard, but with some trial and error You'll find the button. Save game. If You can't read katakana, just try to pick the left-hand choice, the choices are save - load.

3. Reset the game, and reload Your save. The graphics should now work!

However, if they don't, try the following:

1. Start game, and try to save as soon as You get in the game.

2. Continue playing until Sports Day arrives and restores the graphics. After graphics have been restored, save in another slot!

3. Reset game. Load Your Sports Day save. The graphics should work in it. Save/load-icon is the one bottom-right. Load Your previous save, the one with the (formerly) glitchy graphics. All glithces should have disappeared!

This worked for me, so hopefully it will work for others too!
Guess I should try to use pictures when explaining stuff, would have made it sort of clearer...

Of course, if someone has a way or patch to get the graphics working right from the start, I'd love to hear it. I'm planning to show this game to a female friend of mine (she asked for it herself!), and I'd rather have it looking as good as possible from the start.

This is also why ePSXe is no-go: without the lipsync it looks pretty stupid. I'm certain everyone who has played the game would know how I felt when I tried to play it via ePSXe, and when Shiori-chan speaks, her mouth doesn't move... And all the other voiced characters have become telepaths too!

Necrosaro discontinued the SNES translation. However, the reason for this was because he decided to start working on the PS1 version! I heard about these things when I volunteered for the translation project in... Oct-Nov 02 I think. However, I have not heard of Necrosaro since, I guess I should try to contact him again.

Uh, have you tried playing it with games.txt in the VGS folder and running VGS from aldo's video patch?

Post Tokimemo on VGS

Aldo's Video Patch, newest games.txt, updated DirectX and Audigy drivers... Nothing works, the glitches are always there for me. The only workaround seems to be the one I reported... Ah well, at least I can play it now!

Just hope no bugs surface later in the game, it would be exceedingly annoying to find out that the end-game confession sequence doesn't work or something similarly important.

Thanks for help, both here and in the ePSXe thread! And if anyone happens to find an extra Hibikino Watcher Vol.3 for sale somewhere, please contact me. I'd be really grateful!

Kane you should go to Asia, mostly the Phillipines, mostly everything there is for 3x half the price you can get it in england, or america, the games there are all pirated thats why, its so easy to get games there if you want, especially manila, this is where most my friends go to get their games, its kinda cheap but its for the games that you probably couldnt get, of course you will need a mod chip, or just play on an emulator, mabye....but yea, i know because i used to live there.
