Modifying a game/iso?

Okay, I have a question, I would think it's doable. Basically I have Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night and I wanted to modify the game and replace, say, the main character for example, with a different custom graphic? Is this possible? I've done similar things before, like modify PSP game with different sound tracks and removing cut scenes and such. Any help would be wonderful.

AFAIK, HEX-editors should work, but that is a pretty cumbersome thing to employ, and practically impossible unless you know the precise hex adresses... What should do, is unpacking ISO, changing some files, and boiling it back again... AS LONG as these files are in correct format, BUT - most are packed, and I know no tools to unpack them. =\

Honmaru - Tekken 3 Online Center

These guys created a Online hack of Tekken 3... Even though it uses a PC online client for emulator, but the ISO is still hacked...

YouTube - Tekken 3 Online: Tan (EST) vs. Bury - part1

YouTube - TEKKEN 3 VOL.4 (JAP)

See - someone redraw certain Tekken 3 textures, EVEN that they are all packed - it is just few TIM images for textures (yeah, you can view and extract them with certain programs, and I've seen that they are cut in pieces), but I am afraid that 2D sprites are too cumbersome to cope with.

Guys - can anyone shed some more light on how to make these mods? =\

P.S. I've made a similar thread before, you can check it if you like:

Is a hex editor really necessary for modifying PS1 images, can you just extract the contents of the image, unpack the files with the graphics/graphics data, replace whatever sprite with another custom sprite re-pack the file and the image?

Or is there no way other than hex editing the image? It would be funny to say replace Alucard with say a Mario sprite or Dracula with a Barney sprite.

Well, I finally found a way to toy with Tekken textures... First I export the TEKKEN3.BNS from the image, then scan it with TimViewer, export the files with it, convert them to .bmp, edit (keeping palette restrictions and the fact that some files MUST share the same palette in mind), convert back to .tim, insert them (still with TimViewer - BTW, it was updated in 2008, eliminating most crashes) and then repack the cd image with the new TEKKEN3.BNS. =)

As to Castlevania - AFAIK there are some ongoing projects on its' editing.
