Gradius 3+4

do you know the actual name of the file that has the title music, or were you just using PSound's "scan the disc" feature?
if they use the same filetypes as the PAL Gradius, for example, they should be openable/covertable using MFAudio...

MFAudio crashes when I try and extract the particular track. My copy of Gradius 3 & 4 is NTSC-J, not PAL. I somehow doubt it will work otherwise.

It's just _BGM, no extension. For whatever reason I cannot extract this same track from the NTSC-J version, I don't know why either. Also, I cannot source a PAL copy for which to try again.

i am in the process of acquiring the Gradius 3&4 disc. i may be able to figure it out once i have it, but it may take awhile (my internet connection is slow and unreliable).
in the meantime...this _BGM file, how big is it? could you email or PM it to me by chance (so that i could test it on my PC), or is it rather large?

ok, I've decided to play around with PSound but I'm having a problem. Every time I load it up it says ASPI initialization failed. Direct CD-ROM commands are disabled

What the heck does that mean and how can I fix it?

fahlim003, i finally got ahold of Gradius 3&4, and was able to run the *_BGM files using PSound. you are right, they exhibit what is not "skipping" (though it does appear that way), but is actually a re-rendering of the track in the other channel; it is in mono, and both channels are in the same file, sharing a gap of about a second. if i could open it in MFAudio, it has an option to choose Mono or Stereo, but as you mentioned it for some reason crashes. i can't contact MFAudio's creator, as his site has been down for awhile, and support for it is all but gone. if anybody out there knows a program that can fix this problem (the "once-a-second loop" which occurs when a mono file holds stereo data) for this filetype, please let us know.
meantime, i'm gonna try all the programs i have at my disposal. maybe something will work...
as a side note, it seems you need to change the frequency to 44100 in the config options to get the right speed, too.

okay, that was easy. it opens with Cube Media Player. i had thought you said you had tried that, but was confusing you for another poster (oops). in Cube, you can change the Interleave & Offset Settings in the file's Properties. open using "Open File As...", then choose "Interleaved ADPCM Audio". then right-click and choose "Properties". set Offset to 2000, and Interleave to 16384 (there are auto buttons at the bottom), and see if that sounds right. it cuts off at the end, but i think that's where it loops. hope that's right, if not, just change the values abit and try, try again!
cheers

edit: hmm...looks like not all the tracks share those same settings. the first 2 in the folder did, but from there the offset and interleave are different. if G0_BGM wasn't the one, let me know. i'll keep digging...

Hey... I'm trying really hard to rip the soundtracks from the Fear Effect games, and yes, I know it's not PS2, but you guys certainly seem to know what you're doing.

I've got Cube, Psound, Psmplay and PsxMC... Cube, Psmplay grabs the FMVs great, no music. PsxMC complains that there is no stream data. Yet... Psound grabs me what sound like the instruments when I scan the root directory of the disk, which leads me to believe that they music is sequenced.

The directory structure is kind of odd. There are lots of small .WAD files and one large .FLX file.

Now, the music must be rippable because in PSCX it plays fine...

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out, since no offical OST exists for either games and I can't find an existing rip anywhere.

Still has the repeat business and at 44100 it's too slow.

Guys, I'd like some input here if you don't mind... obviously I'm trying to extract audio files from a PS2 iso.
When I mount the image with daemon tools, I just get some .irx files and one .img file, no folders whatsoever (their size is far smaller than the actual size of the image! How so?)

Honestly I didn't know where to start from... I tried scanning it with PSound but I only got like 2 tracks, and their sound was totally off. Cube Media Player is nowhere to be found, either.
Now, I know this can be done because I found some of the dialogues from the game ripped and converted into mp3's on a JP site. The game runs smoothly on pcsx2 but since I'm trying to extract voices/dialogues I can't just record it with fraps because of the music playing in the background...of course I'm not expecting this to be exactly easy, but any input is appreciated

Hi, thx for the quick response. It's Romancing Saga (US version). I've read somewhere that square-enix games are especially hard to crack and each game requires like its own extractor... still, with all the hackers and cheaters out there today...

It'd be a good start if I could find where the dialogues are stored, for example. (This is how it looks like in Isobuster)
