truthfully i've never gotten PSound to work on my XP box, only my Win98, and even then there were better programs i ended up using instead, that weren't so "involving", for lack of a better word. i'll try it again though. i still have it, so i'll see if i can get it going now...
didnt work. i think there trying to read from the wrong hardware setting. how do i change it so its not reading from that "copystar FANTOM" thing? ill show you:

I dont have 2 CD-drives so i dont know what this copystarfantom is.

Virtual Drive

CopystarPhantom is probably a virtual drive, which is used to load images of discs. i believe it belongs to a program called "Fantom CD": Download Fantom CD 1.2.1 build 1960 Free Trial - Fantom CD - Creates a virtual CD-ROM drive very easy - Softpedia
any way, what do you see in the "Edit > Preferences > CD & DVD Device" settings? is the copystar Phantom drive the only one there? and what did aspichk show?

well, i'm stumped. you could try ForceASPI. if you've already tried it, you can try a last ditch effort: rip the disc to an image file and mount it to your CopystarFANTOM drive, which the programs seem to be able to read. i've done that before when i had similar issues with a disc. it's a big hassle, but better than no solution in the meantime.

yeah, it won't show anything unless there's an error. Reg_XP just adds the the registry entries so your system "should" be able to "see" the drives available, and point programs to them.
did you try ForceASPI?

run "KILL ASPI32.bat" to uninstall current aspi layer, then restart Windows and run "Install ASPI32.bat". then run "aspichk old.exe" to see if it worked. you may or may not need to restart after install.

you might also try this version of ForceASPI:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/f3/forceasp...-guide-101614/
it seems to be more stable and has different file versions, and uses Adaptec's ASPI rather than Nero's.
if that didn't work either, there's another NEWER ForceASPI (1.8), at that website. this one too, has different file versions, but is supposedly less stable than the other 2.

it's different for different people, just like how some people have no problem whatsoever getting ASPI to work for them...then there's goku

theres no need to restart, on Windows 2000 and higher, ASPI driver is a demand start driver, and doesn't require a reboot to init.

ForceASPI 1.7 install steps

@goku:
run "Killaspi.bat" then "Instaspi.bat". then restart. then run "aspichk old.exe" from the other download. it should show how many drives ASPI detects. then you can try Cube Media Player.

maybe ForceASPI is different, i'm just going by what the site and others have posted. after all, they mentioned resetting more than a few times on the site. when traditional ideas fail, that's when you go unconventional. better to have tried EVERYTHING than to say you have and have to risk lack of success

Holy crap i got it work....for cube media player at least. i was right that copystarfantom thing wasn't my DVD-CDRW drive so after i installed forceASPI 1.7 and rebooted, it allowed me to switch drives and its scanning now!!

As for Psound, its still being a ****. cant get it working its still determined to scan from that copystarfantom thing.

Hazaa for success!!

Yaaaaay victory!

that's GREAT man! so what does "aspichk old.exe" say when you run it? does it "see" 2 drives on your system, or just the one?

ALSO, did you try running PSound in Win98/ME compatibility mode since ASPI started working?

i'm running into another problem with CMP2 i scanned onimusha blade warriors it took all night but i got 235 audio files out of it. now heres the thing after sound 109 on the list the sounds completely corrupt they start making static noises and just are completely unusable. Ive tried extracting them in small groups but it still doesn't work.

why do you think they are corrupting after 109? heres an example:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/prh80k

btw, is there anyway to get CMP2 to convert directly into mp3 and not go through this whole .ss2 > .wav > .mp3 process? also is there a way i can play sounds within the player? it keeps saying there export only so i cant.

oh got Psound to work too a reboot and a switch of scanning options did it. scanning now...

it could be detecting "false positives"; that is, thinking there were SS2 files when there were not. usually the program looks for the typical header info for SS2 files, and if it sees something that looks like it, it records the info, but it can be wrong.
SS2 files are typically ADPCM compressed wav's. MFAudio should be able to play them if they really are SS2 files (though you might need to change settings to get them to play at the right frequency). PSX Multi Converter 3.23 also handles SS2 (among other) filetypes. both of these only convert to WAV though, but you should be able to bulk convert them using DBPowerAMP Music Converter, if you like.
as for converting to mp3 in Cube, just click "Edit > Preferences > Convert..." , and put a check mark next to "audio codec" and choose your mp3 codec. if you don't see one on the list, you might want to install LAME ACM MP3 codec, but that's up to you.

oh, and you should be able to play found files in Cube with the play button (the one on the bottom left). if it doesn't play, then it's just a program limitation. is it only giving the "export only" message on the 109+ files?

I dont think there false postivites. they seem real to me.

so i still have to do the .ss2 > .wav > .mp3 process? whats the best way to do the process without losing quality of the sounds? tried using .mp3 to convert didnt work it still converted as .ss2.

ah allright. no its doing it for all 235 files.

Thats weird when Psound tried scanning onimusha blade warriors it couldnt find squat. anyway for Psound to dectect files for OBW?

i think you must've misunderstood me. you CAN have it convert to mp3 automatically. just checkmark the "audio codec" box and choose your mp3 codec, it should extract the ss2 to wavs, then convert them to mp3 automatically.

every PS2 disc scanner program out there can detect different types of PS2 sound files [or else we'd only need one ]. apparently PSound doesn't detect SS2 files.

i was actually able to get ahold of Onimusha Blade Warriors (a friend had it), and while i had no luck with MFAudio (which supposedly DOES work with SS2's), PSX Multi Converter actually found 257 audio files! (including some MIDI type music files). many of these were cutscenes (i could tell), but wasn't sure, maybe that's what you're looking for? PSXMC only extracts to WAV (and MIDI, obviously), but again you can always bulk convert to mp3 with dbPowerAMP. also, i'm not aware of any other program out there that can rip MIDI-type files from PS2 games.
PSXMC also lets you preview the songs BEFORE converting them. interestingly enough, the first 110 files appear to be staticky (i remembered you saying that after 109 in CMP2 you started hearing static), so maybe those are "dummy" files to just fill space, or maybe PSXMC picks up the ones that CMP2 missed. coincidentally, i've not been able to get Cube to convert ANY of the files it found to wav AT ALL! not sure if i missed a step or not. gonna go over it again...we WILL get this thing solved!
