First off, I'd like to state that this entire thread helped me to burn some music from some of my PSX games, and because of it I have music that I have never seen on the internet. I'm thankful for that. =) Second off, hello everyone. This is my first post here. Now to the issue I'm having. Currently, I'm trying to rip music off of the PS2 game, Transformers (The armada one made in 2004 that's simply titled 'Transformers'.) I used Cube Media and when I do, it manages to give me several 'Mpeg 2 Flag Errors'. I searched on google for what that meant and came up empty. Anyways when it's done, it seems to only have recorded a few of the ambience sounds from the game and the intro screen, but none of the rest of the tracks that I wished to acquire. Upon looking at what type the music files are, they are in a strange format I've never seen before called '.MS'. I once again turned to google to see if I could find this file type and I believe I found a similar type- .DVR-MS None of the tools I have can currently extract music from this file type. Cube Media, MFAudio, none of them recognize it. I don't either... so I suppose my question here is: How do I extract music from this game? Moreover, is there a way to extract music from this .MS file type? And if there is, then how can one go about accomplishing that? Thanks for any response! -Nightbringer |

I looked both of those up, is AFS a file type? If so, then it won't work on these .MS files. PSound doesn't recognize the MS format either. Is there a program that can convert MS/DVR-MS files to WAV or MP3? If I could nab one, I could see if DVR-MS and MS files work similarly. If not, well I suppose I might be out of luck. I hope that's not the case. Does anyone else have input on this? |

how to convert .ms files
i'm pretty sure .ms files have NO relation to .dvr-ms files, since the latter is just Windows Media Center Edition's wrapper for video files it creates, that uses simple MPEG-2 compression (like PSS files). feel free to test that though, since i am not 100% sure. ToWav Music Convertor should do the job (CTPAX-X - Файловый архив , or google it). it supposedly covers a wide variety of filetypes, and it lists your game (with .ms extension, no less). if you google the page, you can translate it from it's original Ukranian, if you like. one more thing i found to be of interest: File extension details - files How To (by File Extension Seeker) a quite comprehensive list of Playstation 1 thru 3 extensions that are known to be capable of being ripped. i hope this was abit helpful ![]() -df |

ASPI Ahoy!
Adaptec ASPI Drivers (Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP) - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com this should get you some ASPI drivers to use. it's up to the program to use them after you install. it may not, since it was written for WinME and earlier. hope this helps!

yeah, sorry man, it's been awhile since i did mine, i forgot how bad it is. okay, when you click the file to unpack, keep tabs on where it unpacks to (by default it's "C:\adaptec\aspi") and click Start > Run... and type cmd in the "Open:" field. a command prompt should pop up (black screen with white text on most systems). navigate to the folder where you unpacked the files to. if you're not sure how to do this, just type in: cd C:\adaptec\aspi and hit Enter. then, for 32-bit standard WinXP, type: install.bat xp32 with a space between "install.bat" and "xp32". for 64-bit Windows XP: install.bat xp64 afterwards, you can run aspichk.exe in the extracted folder to see if ASPI installed ok. it should say "ASPI is properly installed and fully operational" in grey at the bottom. if you have anymore problems, please just ask ![]() df

hmm, that usually works. okay, try to install using aspiinst.exe . just click on it, and it should try to automatically detect and install. it doesn't always work, which is why i recommended the other way, but give it a shot. if THAT doesn't work, you can install ASPI manually. it's abit long, but i'll walk you through it: first you must expand the files. assuming we're still going by "C:\adaptec\aspi" for the files location, Run the command line program (cmd) as i described in my previous post, and navigate to the C:\adaptec\aspi directory. then type: expand *.*_ .. be sure you include both spaces (between "d" and "*", AND "_" and "."), or you'll get "can't open file" error. when it's done, it should expand the 8 compressed files in the folder, and send them to the C:\adaptec directory (one folder level up). you need to rename the newly expanded "wowpost.ex_" to "wowpost.exe", and "winaspi.dl_" to "winaspi.dll". you can then move them to their install locations in the C:\WINDOWS\System directory (NOT System32). as a point of reference, the other 2 files, wnaspi32.dll and aspi32.sys go in the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" and "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers" directories, respectively. this is all assuming 32-bit WinXP OS of course. not sure about other OSes. run aspichk.exe again to check your status. the versions for wnaspi32.dll and aspi32.sys should be 4.71.2 and the versions for wowpost.exe and winaspi.dll should be 4.6 (1021). let me know how it goes...

tom, if it's freeware i don't think anyone would mind. nothing about it in the rules, and it IS available (they can turn it off if they don't want people using it). the only problem would be if it's a shareware app that has been "cracked" or was meant to be paid for to be used (warez). they don't allow that here: http://www.ngemu.com/forums/751349-post1.html otherwise i say GO FOR IT!

for Cube Media Player, it looks like it's trying to use a drive other than the one you want to use. try changing the settings in Edit > Preferences > CD & DVD Device... not sure about PSound. did you run aspichk again? were all 4 drivers listed as installed? try running it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 98? truthfully i've never gotten PSound to work on my XP box, only my Win98, and even then there were better programs i ended up using instead, that weren't so "involving", for lack of a better word. i'll try it again though. i still have it, so i'll see if i can get it going now... tom, what version of Cube Media Player do you have? mine is Cube Media Player 2.05.0117

before you try ForceASPI (which is actually an older version of the ASPI drivers), try running reg_xp.exe in the ASPI folder from earlier. reg_xp.exe actually tells your PC where the drives are. also, if ForceASPI doesn't work, you can always "roll back" to your original ASPI drivers using the ForceASPI program
