Ripping FMV (and audio) from Kingdom Hearts 2
Before I start, here's the software I use:
DVD Decrypter The File Splitter Nova Software Extractor PSS Plex MF Audio I've been successful in ripping the PSS files from the Kingdom Hearts 2 ISO (and KH2.IMG file I later found on the DVD), but I've been unsuccessful in ripping the audio. I've ripped the PSS files, and when I use PSS Plex, it only splits the video and subtitle (I think it's the subtitle) files. MF Audio simply states that there's no audio stream. Was the audio saved seperately from the video files? I've tried searching for mp3, wav, ogg, and other audio formats, but haven't found anything. Does anyone have any experience with this? |

Well, I've searched the entire file with Cube Media Player, and only found the movie, voice, and sound fx files. I found Gummi Ship level and title theme music at the end of the file, but I didn't find the audio for the movies. Anyone got any ideas?

I think the audio is saved in mp4 aac format. Which is why Nova Extractor and Cube Media Player cannot find it. It's a higher quality, smaller file size audio stream. If anyone knows of a ripper that can rip mp4 aac audio, post it here.

supposedly the audio is actually located in the same file as the fmv's are. Which if this is the case, the audio files technically are already extractable. The problem is they're in some kind of encrypted audio format. In fact, I think jdharding got it right. So in other words, actually finding the audio to the fmv's doesn't appear to be the hard part.
Depending on what program you use to demux the fmv's, (pss plex for example), another file should be produced as well. For example, when I split the ending for KH2, I get a .m2v file and a .dat file which is about roughly 17mb in size. It's definietely a suitable size for an audio file around 8~9 minutes in length if compressed correctly. But no matter what you try to play this file in, it just doesn't work. If someone figured out how to decrypt this audio format, or found a converter for it, you might be able to convert these .dat files into a user friendly audio format (providing of course, that these .dat files are what I think they are). |

sayde is right
you got it, the dat files are the missing sound but they are not encrypted these dat's are normal wav files, the only differenz is, they have no header. you must use the atrac3 codec to play them, befor you can do this, you must recover the header, this is the hard part. you can convert a wav file to atrac3 and use this wav header (some size editings and they work), but the PS2 use an other speed for this sound so you must also correct the time and then your done. |

AMV :: Topic - *tutorial* How to get the sound working from KH2 fmv's
here's a link to a tutorial I typed up. Be warned. It gets pretty in-depth. I also encourage those who read this to read several posts past the first one as it contains some useful alternative solutions for the final steps of the tutorial. |
