i dont know how or why but it works for me now. what i dont get is why wont it work with some games? like in dbz budokai 3, theres a anime opening, it wont find it. its not even a .pss file. what i do know is that fmvtool finds those 3d videos from the games. just not cartoon fmv's.

Cube Media freezes on my computer, and it doesn't even get results. At least this tool gets results.

Note: I meant MGS3. Cube Media freezes on it and I still don't know why.

Belive me: I've tried it on MGS2 and it will not work - Cube found only "false MPEG2 streams" becaude of the encoding I described in the previous post.

What are you talking about? It has nothing to do with the video contents. If it doesn't find your FMVs that means they are either in non-standard streams or the data is encrypted, nothing more.

Okay, I feel extremely stupid for asking this, but I really am rather new to this stuff so please try and forgive my ignorance. ^^

I'm trying out this neato FMV search and extraction program with the CDVDbin.dll. But when I test the plugin, it returns with a 0 value. And from subsequent tests with actual PS2 ISOs, I get the feeling the 0 value is trying to tell me that it's not finding anything or something similar to that? =/

Exact output of tests:
21:40:41] Opening Disc...
[21:40:41] Disc Open Successful.
[21:40:41] Disc Type: 0
[21:40:41] Disc Track List:
[21:40:41] *** First: 1
[21:40:41] *** Last: 1
[21:40:41] * 1: -1 - 0 - 00:00:0000
[21:40:41] *** End Of List
[21:40:41] Disk size detected: 0 sectors.
[21:40:41] Searching MPEG2 Streams...
[21:40:41] Done searching. Streams Found: 0
[21:40:41] Closing disc...
[21:40:41] Done.

The Extract from setting also changes to Extract from 0 to -1 by itself.

I also have another possibly stupid question: Do I HAVE to burn ISOs onto a DVD in order for programs like this to use them? I was looking at the cdvdPeops.dll and noticed that it's really insistent on needing a CD/DVD-ROM drive. I mean, I sure have one but selecting it isn't going to help matters cuz I have no means of getting my ISOs onto DVDs.

I have lots of fun ripping them though. =P

Thanks in advance for any advice and answers.

Disc Type: 0 means no disc, so for some reason the plugin is telling the program that there is no disk inserted. The progeam can't find anything because it thinks it's empty (0 bytes of data).

EDIT: I tried to use cdvdbin, and noticed that you must select the image in the settings before starting, because it will not show the open dialog there.

EDIT2: sorry that doesn't work. Dunno why but the cdvdbin plugin will not load the disc. I will try to find what is the problem.

What is the "2 ocx" that GiGaHeRz says you need in his first post? How do I know if I have them? I'm getting a disk type 5: uknown on MGS2.

If the program loads, you have them. The disk type detection is a feature of the cdvd plugins, I can't help with that, but if it doesn't say type 0, it might work.

bit off topic: I've ripped it by using my tv card, and dscaler4, so it looks very good, If you realy care, and have about 30 - 80 mb of space somewhere on the net (not mail account) I can send it to you

Hey, I thought this program might be the one, but...

I'm trying to get the FMVs from Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant, the latter being the real b***h. And I just can't get the sound for the first one to work either. So someone from AMV on a thread posted to this one and I joined 'cause it looked good and everybody in the thread was real happy.

And I was happy too, when I got these mpgs...but when I tried to play them, it says with Windows Media Player can't play the file. Well, I thought that was okay, I'll just demultiplex them with TPGMC (or whatever it is) and make the result into avis, which is what I want, but it says it's an invalid/illegal mpeg stream. At first, when it didn't work since I did so much stuff with other programs before this, I was like: :cuss2: at the game discs, but I'm like now because I want those FMVs from the game to watch over and over without playing the game over and over.

So maybe I'm doing something wrong, but could you help?

First of all the FMV extraction tool is still being worked on. That means that things like what you mentioned are going to be expected. I recomend that you check out my guides that I have posted. They might help with your problem. You can take a look here or here. This is only another way to extract the FMV's. I still use "GiGaGeRz's FMV Search & Extract Tool" though, but the other way works just as good.

Hope they help.

Thanks, shattenberg88, but I found that on AMV and I tried that the first thing, long before I found this and that didn't work. The second one I also tried before posting here and that didn't work either. It's almost as if god himself is conspiring against me. Oh well, enough whining from me. The only thing that I can think of the reason that Shadow Hearts Covenant may not work is because the game has two discs, it's so big. It's the only thing I can think of at this point because I've tried everything.

The number of disks do not matter. The only thing I can think of is the movie is not MPEG2 or .PSS, but another format. If you find out, and get tons of info on it and submit it to Gigaherz, he would be able to try and implement it into the tool. Hope it helps!

A really nice feature would be:
Documentation; directions that include everything you'll need, and if legal, a link for where to get it.

When I press "Test" right below Configure, I get Test:0. Is that bad or something?

Well, I tried it again and this is what I get on 04fix for Shadow Hearts Covenant (PS2, two discs):

[12:59:03] Opening Disc...
[12:59:03] Disc Open Successful.
[12:59:03] Disc Type: 20
[12:59:03] Disc Track List:

[12:59:03] *** Last: 1
[12:59:03] * Track 1: 0 - 1 - 255:37:0047
[12:59:03] *** End Of List
[12:59:03] Disk size detected: 1874672 sectors.
[12:59:03] Searching MPEG2 Streams...
[13:03:28] Done searching. Streams Found: 0
[13:03:28] Closing disc...
[13:03:28] Done.

That's with the sector stream thingy selected. When I also pick the second option, Method 2, I get this:

[13:13:20] Done searching. Streams Found: 13
[13:13:20] Closing disc...
[13:13:20] Done.

Long list huh? Both those results were for the first disc. And when I export one of those mpgs and try to play it in media player, it says it won't play it. (see screenshot below)

When I check, neither disc has two layers, so what gives?

And I can't get 05 to work. First it said I needed a plugin, so I downloaded that Peops one (1.2) and then I get this error: Runtime error: 453. Can't find DLL entry point WrapLoad in reader.dll

try not to use the "Use method 2" mode. maybe that's why you're getting false streams
