Unhappy

Well, not sure if someone has mention the same problem...but nevermind, here I go.

I could do the instructions until 2....in 3 I couldn't go further....

Every time I try to open FMVTool,,My damn comp says:
,,Failed to load control 'commonDialog' from COMDLG32.OCX. Your version of COMDLG32.OCX may be outdated.Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with you application''

As a Noob my answer:
WTF????

Could someone help me to fix this problem?
Something to install? If yes then where???

Thats because you dont have one of the required runtime files.

Once downloaded, extract the files from the zip, right-click the inf and select install, then it should work.

Or he could easily read this thread and find out without asking. The response is in the first page IIRC.

Thank you GiGaHeRz for this great tool

I was able to rip a lot of goodies from God of War [ SCES_531.33 ] .
First i was confused like everyone else that the movies had no sound . But going through this thread and google-ing some more i found out how you can play them with sound and convert them with sound to usual formats like divx.

What you need :
1. The tool by GiGaHeRz , you can find it on the first page of this thread .
2. PSS_Demux i will attach it here
3. The filters for the movies to play with sound , get them here
4. Easiest way to register those filters is with Regdrop (attached)
5. VirtualDubMod to convert into whatever format you like .

------------------
So you extracted the fmv with GiGaHeRz's tool .What do you do next ?
You play it and there's no sound .Don't worry the sound is there inside, you just don't have any decompressor installed for it .That's why you need to use the filters at point 3 . Drag them over the Regdrop icon and they will be registered .Then play your videos using Media Player Classic or Bs Player or whatever player you use . If it still doesn't have sound you might need to add the filter manually so the player knows it's there and use it . For Bs Player you can do that by going to preferences -> filter management ->filter priority->add filter and select the PS2 filters .
------------------
How to compress into other format :

Launch PSS_Demux and drag an extracted mpg file over it .Now you have 2 extra files , a m2v and a wav . In Virtual Dub Mod open the m2v file ,then select Stream->Stream List and add the wav file there. Go to Video->Compression, select your codec and the other settings there . After that go to File->Save As , give it a name and a location and your file will be encoded .
I hope this helps

nice post flowrest!
just a side note.. that you can have the video/sound in one file without having to reencode. Using mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix you can merge the m2v with wav (however here i suggest a reencode to mp3/ogg/aac) into 1 matroska container (mkv).

I don't mean to sound like I'm bashing this program, but can someone possibly enlighten me on the uniqueness of this programs scanning capabilities? Because as it stands, it only seems to have two redeeming qualities about it.

It can scan for fmv's without having to create an iso image.
It can scan for fmv's relatively fast as well.

Other than that, I just don't see the point. Especially when it only seems to locate fmv's from ps2 games which were already relatively easy to find in the first place. Once again, I apologize if I offended anyone who praises this tool. It's nice people have another alternate method to search for fmv's, but until it can start locating fmv's to games which have them encoded differently, I don't really see the point.

Perhaps if this program gained the ability to also scan for .m2v files it would noticibly increase the number of games this program works with. In other words, programing it to scan for files that start with hex values of 000001B3 instead of 000001BA could just do wonders for improving the usefullness of this program. It still would'nt find fmv's to games like FFXII, but at least it could locate the fmv's to games like the shadow hearts series as well as I'm sure many others.

Better yet, if this program had the capability to not only scan for .m2v or .pss files, but verify the results by further scanning for hex values of
656E636F64656420627920544D5047456E63 (which translated into text means "encoded by TMPGEnc") you'd also be able to improve the programs capability of finding more reliable results as well.

Anyways, that's about it. This program can accurately scan for portions of hex that start with 000001BA and end with 000001B9, but past that it's use seems limited. Especially since portions of hex that start with the above header and footer values respectively, aren't neccessarily .pss files at all. This why it keeps turning up files on some games that simply can't be played back no matter what media player you use.

For the last time, this is by no means an attempt at bashing fmv tool. Just call this constructive criticism.

Need help here...
I read the instructions on the first page but I don't understand how to 'configure the plugin'
And then I do nothing on the configuration and skip to the next part
And it seems it can't find any streams. It's like this:

[00:06:26] Disc Type: 5 - Unknown
[00:06:26] Disc Track List:
[00:06:26] *** First: 1
[00:06:26] *** Last: 1
[00:06:26] * Track 1: -1 - (0) - 00:00:0000
[00:06:26] *** End Of List
[00:06:26] Disk size detected: 0 sectors.
[00:06:26] Searching MPEG2 Streams...
[00:06:26] Done searching. Streams Found: 0
[00:06:26] Closing disc...
[00:06:26] Done.

So how to fix this?

Edit : After I re-checked it, there's no drive found in the plugin configuration. It's only the "NONE" option...
