Hardware question.

Is it a good idea to put the ps2 in sleep mode when not in use, or is it better to turn it off from the rear switch after use?

I keep mine in sleep mode 24/7, doesn't cause any problems and I don't have to reach behind for the switch all the time.

I put mine to 'sleep mode' (red light) then turn it off, I never turn it off straight from the back, as that once knackered a mates PS2. But I don't mind turning it on from the back most days, prefer the idea of letting my little black box of joy rest

I always leave mine on 'sleep'. It's no different than turing off your ATX machine with the front switch.

I don't think it really matters as well, but i normally turn mine off at the back because i either don't play the ps2 again for lengthy periods of time (it could be weeks or months in between sessions), or i have my GC hooked up instead. :P

Heh.. I always turn mine off via the switch. It may be a psychological thing, but I always feel as if it's draining power being in sleep mode because of that dang red light.

The time periods between my PS2 use is about the same as yours . I just leave mine in sleep mode. I'm afraid of wearing out the switch because back right after I got my PS2 I had to use the switch a LOT (long story ). It seems that if I turn off the switch, let it sit for a while (month or two) then turn it back on, it takes a minute or so to get the fan up to full speed. It sounds like it's not quite at full RPM right after turning it on whereas when leaving the switch to on the fan goes right to full speed when I turn it on. I guess the system gets fully discharged and it takes it a minute or two to get fully going again after turning the switch back on.

How do you get yours to sleep mode? On my new ps2, the red light is on right when I turn it on, but after that, it never comes on again.

Wait, I just figured it out. Hold down the power button for a second or more. Ok

I will probably leave mine on standby some times, and just turn it off if I know I won't use it.

I turn my off all the time. I go on like four or five month stretches without using my PS2, so I don't need it on sleep mode all the time. I see no reason to do so. Now that I think about, I rarely use my PS2.
