On editing save games

using nport, i xtracted the save games on my mem card and when i try to hex edit them for something (ex. gil in ffx) i get a corrupt file, making me figure that there is a checksum error somewhere in there

anyone know how to change the checksum so itll work?

even better, is there something like PSXGameEdit was for the first ps that will work for the ps2? that'd be awesome...
