PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

A friend bought a PS2, it came with 3 Game DVDs. He could play them OK but he now want to save game progress so he need a memcard.
Here PS2 memcards are expensive U$S30 x 3 = $90,

I want to know if it´s possible to connect a PS1 memcard and if games could be saved OK in that memcard?? ps2 memcards have 8mb, ps1 (15 blocks) have 1mb?? Is true that there are games that require more than 1mb of free space?? Also ps1 memcard could damage ps2 memcard port??

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

PS1 memory cards are for PS1 games, PS2 memory cards are for PS2 games. putting a PS1 mem card in the ps2 mem card slot won't damage it. PS1 memory cards are 128KB = 15 Blocks. so there is no way to save ps2 games on a PS1 mem card

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

some ps2 games might be saved in a ps1 memcard if it was possible, but the ps1 memcard format is different (ps1 has blocks, ps2 has space).
And there are games, like the sims for ps2, that require about 1.4mb for each save.

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

It's impossible, IMO. The memcard has been disigned for specific console+games. You can use the PSX memcard in your PS2 JUST to save a PSX games, not PS2 games. The memcard wouldn't recognized by the game, if you try it. And PS2 memcard also the same. And it won't damange the port. Just make sure you're using the original memcard, not a fake one, cuz they lots lost the data.

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

PSone cards are 1Mb (that's megabit) not 1MB (megabyte). The case of the "B" does matter.

mb=millibit
MB=megabyte

Eh? 1 Mega bit is too small you know. 1 bytes = 8 bit, if that memcard only 1 bit ... I don't think it will fit ANY data.

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

Uh, sorry. I wrongly assumed that he said 1bit I'm correct when saying 1byte = 8bit

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

Yes 1 nibble is 4 bits and 1 byte is eight bits.

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

You can actually move PS1 game saves onto a PS2 memory card for backup but you cannot load or save PS1 games on a PS2 memory card.

Why would you need 2 memory cards for 3 games?
Why not just buy one of those packages that contain 2 official Sony PS2 mem cards and use them two for the games?
(you'll save around $10-20 buyin the package containing two than buying two seperately depending on where you shop...)

Re: PS2 Memory Cards Question!!!

When I bought my SCPH37000L, there is no memcard bundled with. I bought the one [a set] pair of official Sony memcard for $50.
