Question
I´ve allways heard of a new emulator for the PS2 which can ran games.
Is that right? On the other sight I allways heard that no Emulator can run the PS2 at the moment. Runs games with the PCSX2? I´ve the PSX but don´t the PS2, waiting for PS3 )

The closest any PS2 emulator can get to playing games is displaying the initial loading screen before crashing horribly. Anything beyond that is not possible right now and won't be for some time.

What is the point anybody but coders worrying about PS2 emulation at the moment when it is years off. Also, why are coders so concentrated on PS2 emulation when, lets face it PS1 emulation is not perfect yet.
Why not finish what we started?. Probably in a couple of years time we will have the same thing happening when we have a nearly completed PS2 emulator!!!

Was SNES emulation perfect when PSX emulators were being written? 'Lets face it', no. Who are you to dictate what a developer should or shouldn't work on?

Kane, I agree that the SNES emulation wads not finished, I'm not saying that is a good thing, I just think that coders should finish what they started FIRST thenmove on to new challenges, it seems logical and more enjoyable for the public? I.e I can play my PERFECT PS1 emulator for a year while I wait!

Perhaps they feel they've done enough. Or perhaps you didn't realise that the PCSX team are working on both (IIRC). You want perfect PSX emulation? Go and get a PSX. This is my take on perfect emus :http://www.ngemu.com/articles.php?action=view&rid=21

Also, I was aware of the PCSX teams efforts to continue on both but, I would be suprised if they have the time to make good emulators of both, Hopefully they do, and if so they would have the start of a great product range. I personnally do believe that perfect Emulation is obtainable [peace]

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. Nothing can ever be perfect.

For you.
For another it may be HLE emulation. For someone else it may be good graphics without any configuring. For another it may be games running identical to that of the PSX (VGS)

Ok, we could argue over definition of perfect for ever, but, at the end coders could still improve PSX emulation for EVERYONE regardless of there views on perfection, lol, and at this point in time I believe that is more important than PS2 emulation that is years off even being SATISFACTORY.

And PS2 emulation will stay that way as long as no one works on it. These projects take a very long time.
Anyway the coders are doing this because they want to - it's got nothing to do with your desires. Anyway what are you complaining about? It's not like the ePSXe team has stopped to focus on PS2 emulation. You'll still see your definition of perfect PSX emulation someday regardless of whether the PCSX2 team are working on PS2 emulation or not. |

just a thought
(afraid of waking a roaring lion here =) Shouldn't "perfect emulation" be just that the perfect replica of something, in the psx case the ability to run all existing psx games on a computer with the same Res and speed. (with that i don't mean on a 100mhz pentium but a normal mid range pc) If you got the ability to highten the Res or filter the output then it wouldn't be "perfect emulation" anymore right, i mean its great that those options exists but they don't fit into the word perfect at all since the regular psx can't do them. I don't belive in forcing people to "finish" there emu:s, the only thing we could do is to encourage someone that if he/them doesn't have the intrest or time to continue working on a it for a long time, then release the source so that we can continue the developement. And if you can't help, then don't tell people what they should do. Another thing, i don't belive in striving for perfectionas a first goal, i rather belive that a good emu is one that: plays mainstream games (that many people have) has some means of improving the output (so that you can feel that you 2000$ computer actually is more badass than a psx) plays games that is stored on the computer (so that you can store your originals and not use them.) When a emu has archived that it has served its purpose (imho) anything that is added thereafter is luxury.... what do you guys think?
