Emulation better than actual hardware?

I just bought an N64, and was unpleasently suprised how bad the framerate is compared to my computer. On my PC, there are no modifications to the roms or anything; the just run alot smoother and dont slow down as much. Is there any truth to this, or is my n64 broken?

I'm still a novice emu programmer, but it's due to inaccurate emulation, usually[at least to my understanding]. Some emulators do not emulate the 'flaws' of the system, which allows the games that have slowdowns to run faster than the actual console.

PAL consoles run at Fixed 17- Variable 50FPS, and only have a lag on PC's.
NTSC Consoles run at Fixed 20 - Variable 60FPS and have no lag on pc's.

emulation has the flaws of the real hardware

example

metal gear on epsxe, always runs at 60fpt, real 30fps, but sometimes the game slow downs because of pse hardware even on the most powerfull pc

another ex is ff9, runs at 30fps but battles at 15fps,

in n64, you have the awful zelda at 17fps pal or 20fps ntsc, even on a super pc, emulation is 100% perfect just with better graphics
