Has anyone seen this?

It's what looks to be a completely 3D homebrew game/engine for GBA called Yeti3D.

http://www.theteahouse.com.au/gba/index.html

For a homebrew game (it's just a demo so far) it is the most impressive thing I've seen from something of this type.

You can pick it up in their download section, and it works on VBA and flash carts:

http://www.theteahouse.com.au/gba/files.html

I thought this would show that VBA is not solely about playing commercial games as there is homebrew stuff which is great as well.

There's a lot of hombrew games out there. The problem is that most of them suck. Checkout pdroms.com , They carry nothing but homebrew games and demos (hence the name Public Domain roms.com).

emulation is not just about piracy you know! (or backups if you want to seem legal)
there are loads of good programers that dont work for big games companys its just that there are loads of them that make early eightys style games as well!

98% or PD roms either have extremely poor graphics (we're talking atari 2600 level here), extremely simplistic gameplay (again atari 2600 level), only have a couple levels, or any combination of the above. I realize making a game (especially a good one) takes a lot of work, but the fact remains that the vast majority of PD games simply aren't worth the download. You're much better off with freeware games for your PC.
If anyone knows of some good PD roms, please let me know (they can be for GB/GBC, NES, SNES, genesis, SMS, GG as well as GBA).

..and WTF is the point of demos?! Oh yeah, staring at a colored box spinning around on your emu screen is lots of fun! [/sarcasm]

Back on topic, that game does look good, too bad it isn't actually a game yet.

the point of demos are to test the functions of the console, mostly to test your ability to code such functions.

i've seen a group a year or so ago that were making some fully 3D gba games, but i haven't heard about them ever since. They were making a GTA type game, a racing game, and a few others. They even had movies of the betas and they looked pretty good. i should try to find that page again...

I think pd roms are to test emulation, and in some cases the power of the console...like this one.

in most cases, emulators test what they can do based on pd roms, not the other way around. There's tons of PD games for the ps2, xbox, and GC that cant be run yet.

maybe most PD games are bad, but these projects can serve a number of purposes, like hobbies for weekend programers or even showcases for their work, but mostly you can not expect a game made by 1 or 2 people to be as good as games made by teams of full time experts, and it is sometimes good to see some more original games even if they arent graphical showcases.

hey, i would be hella proud of making a little PD demo, even if it sucked. that's a big accomplishment for some amatuer programmers (and especially would be for me since im not a programmer!)

Guys, commercial console games are made with special development tools, which are expensive to license. Without these tools, it is much harder to code anything.
If you are a programmer, just think the difference between Visual Studio and ASM.
So go easy on the demo coders. Many of them are actually more skilled than a lot of professionals.

Yeti3D looks great. I wonder how well it runs tho, will try it later...
