better wait or buy a real game cube??
Hi guys,
I'd like to play with some gcube games (like Zelda twilight princess, Super smash Bros, Metroid, F-zero, resident evil). I'm a bit disappointed, however, by the current status of gc emulation: dolphin has no sounds, no fps limit and works only on a 64bit pc (that i don't have), gekko, in my opinion, will never reach dolphin. So here's my question: according to you, should I wait for further releases (and maybe buy a new pc) or just buy a game cube on ebay? Bye |

Just buy one on ebay, they're not expensive at all, and buy the games to go with them as well. You should know that if you don't have the original console and original games, you shouldn't expect to be helped with emulation either. Emulation isn't just a cheap way to play downloaded games you know.

Should be a no-brainer. As a general rule, the console will be (much) cheaper than the hardware necessary to emulate it.

There's only a handful of good games on GC anyway.
Mario, Zelda WW and TP, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, SSBM, MGS: TS, Tales of Symphonia (also on PS2 though. I'll admit it's popular but I don't care for it), RE4, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario. Of all them, Metroid 1&2 and Zelda: TP are the only world class titles.

I think it's safe to say that RE4 is a world class title as well
![]() IMO the Gamecube is a lot like Dreamcast. There's few games that would initially persuade you to buy it, but once you have it and really start digging into its library there's quite a lot of fun games that will give you plenty of hours of fun, making it a rather good investment.

Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, RE: Code Veronica X, Ikaruga, (these are all I can think of but I know there're more) Part of the reason the ports flowed onto GC was that Nintendo bought out Sega around 2001, just as the DC was on its way out and GC was on its way in.

I've stated this before but...I do in fact own a Gamecube, and I own one game. Never really had any interest in GC games, well, enough interest to actually buy some. I keep telling myself I'll pick up Mario Sunshine and a few others though... |

![]() Nintendo had no part in Sega's downfall, but I do think that it filled the gap nicely. Sega and Nintendo both focused on the same market, and both didn't really have many adult oriented games. Also they didn't focues on marketing their machines as an adult's gaming machine, unlike Sony and Microsoft. It reflects in their games as well. |

![]() I could have sworn I remember reading an article a good 6 years ago about Nintendo buying out Sega though... that would have explained why Sega doesn't make systems anymore. Here check it out! I SWEAR I read one of these when I was younger: Nintendo to buy Sega ? - MegaGames hardware Nintendo denies Sega deal | Geek.com

Sega stated the report was groundless, and Nintendo denied everything. Perhaps it's some sort of an over ambitious journalist's report? I never heard of those talks, regardless, though perhaps there were official talks of course, since I find it hard to imagine New York Times would publish such a message without a proper reason, and we all know businessmen like to deny such stuff: Nintendo to save their shares, Sega to save all they have
![]() And at that time Sony was already marketing the PS2 at full power, so I think that's what got Sega in a tough situation already, leading to talks with others probably (so the possible nintendo deal being an effect, rather than one of the starting factors of the downfall) Even in 2000 it was already noticable how corrupt gaming media actually was, buying all the bull**** Sony sent out, even adding to the hype based on their own (probably financially backed by Sony ) assumptions.Fact is though that Microsoft actually had a part in Dreamcast, using it as a stepping stone really. Seeing how they needed franchises and that four players would make the market overcrowded, it wouldn't surprise me if they had a bigger part behind the scenes. Then again, that's just one theory of course, but seeing how the Xbox is awfully similar to the DC it might've very well been true. Both have a microsoft logo, DC zip drive vs Harddrive, Seganet vs Xbox Live, at least MS took the good ideas and perfected them ![]() Anyway, thanks for the links. |
