New Dreamcast Emulator -- Kagerou -- In Development

Kagerou, a Dreamcast emulator designed to play Dreamcast commercial disks in currently in development and the web site is planned to premiere very soon. I will post the link when it does.

Upset by the delays and forgotten Icarus, the developer has had ideas and technical ideas and has recently started development a few weeks ago.

Kagerou has no complicating technical terms, it you have to do is set your controls and insert your dreamcast disk, and then push Play CD.

Release to the beta is planned to release on October 1st, and the beta is planned to play most Dreamcast disks and then hopefully if the beta is successful, the final will be released shortly after.

Link to web site will be posted shortly.

Developer is a friend of mine who goes by the name Tonka. You may have heard of him.

Sorry if it doesn't sound so informative, my English isn't all that good. The info comes from Tonka. He wants to bring the Dreamcast back to life and hopefully this will do a sufficient amount.

Hello, JinSuzuki. This Emulator probably is a fake, because there is no "inserting the DC CD". No drive but the DC can read them.

It's possible if you are playing a rip, but I'm skeptical.... It's a shame that a couple of years in the emu community does that to you, but hey.
If it's real then all my best, but like I said, I am now an uber skeptic.

The same. It'd better to post the spec of PC that can run it, as I want to know if he listed CD ROM drive to read GD disc .

Maurice Chavéz has something to say...
Back to pressing issues, and the issue here is: FAKE!

(GTA:VC,VCPR)

Ps.: I think he should team up with Pastor Richards to build that Pastor Richard´s Salvation Statue, so when people are bored up there, they can simply put their GD-ROMS on their computers and use Kagerou to play them...

That's why I do not encourage announcing your emulator if you have not came out with the complete/near complete release. It will always end up being seen as a fake. Well, it sounds fishy to me but if it is the real thing, I'd say, best of luck on your project.

Just some words of wisdom, we do not take fake emulators very lightly. Fake emulator authors will be indefinitely banned on the spot, no question.

While the post seems credible and sincere enough, I don't really see this happening. I don't think this is an intentional hoax like many emulators, but... it also seems unlikely.. not enough details either. My guess is that very little of this (any?) is actually done and the author is oversighting what he will be able to accomplish and setting a near due date for it too. This is very unwise, and unfortunately other emu authors have fallen prey to this.. and their reputation was really hit hard because of it (HairyBuddha for instance)... but at least there wasn't any exact harm meant by it. Still, take it with a grain of salt.

If this is real then I will say that it's an incredibly breakthrough. I'm just a skeptic.. but I'll give it a chance to prove itself, of course.

Re: New Dreamcast Emulator -- Kagerou -- In Development

well, i think gd-rom insertion may be possible with certain dvd- or cdrom-drives as the data-density is only slightly higher than that of a real cd. since the size of a gd doesn't differ (if my eyes aren't that bad) and most of the newer drives are able to read 99min CDRs which also have the same radius as any other odinary 74min CDR. the real problem would be to manually switch from normal mode (beginning) to "high-dens" mode i guess. another problem is how to access a gd with existing cdrom-drive firmwares? one has to modify/hack it to do the trick...
though the possiblity is there i doubt that this procedure is worth developing since liksang is selling gd-units (made for dc). y not build a pc-compatible controller? *rofl*
