I bought a DC
I finnaly bought a Dreamcast despite my mom telling me she doesn't want a console in the house. I bought it for $60 and it came with Unreal tournament, Crazy Taxi, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evin:Code Veronica, and Dino Crisis for games. Then it came with one controller
w/a Rumble pack dealy, and an internet link. Was this a good deal? anyways, my question is mainly for CyRUS.....Is there special software you used to back up your games on a hard drive? Or is this part of Icarus? I realize you have to use the internet link, but I still have no cluewhere to go from there, so help me out on this please. Thanks. |

Re: I bought a DC
/me never knew games like dino crisis and RE3 nemesis were also released for DC.
Anyways I think you will need special cable to connect your DC GD Rom drive to your pc and then back up your games.

Re: I bought a DC
I you want to copy your backup to CD, you can use Clone C to backup your CDs, but a lot of games are bigger than 700MB to use normal CDs, so they have to be ripped.
You also need the Utopia CD Boot to make your DC use normal CDs; you can download from the DC/Utilities section, or you can use a selfboot utilitie when you burn your coopy if you donīt want to use the CD Boot.

Re: I bought a DC
you cant copy a DC game to your hard drive, another CD, DVD, or anything using a CD or DVD drive. the reason is that they are on GD-Roms. your computer can only read the small first track (turn a dreamcast disc over....you can see it).
anyways, if you try to copy a DC game you only get that very small first track and a wasted CD. to make ROMs for icarus you need to have a dreamcast and a broadband adapter to dump the ROM....hit up http://www.google.com for the rest |

Re: I bought a DC
im sure it would work...but wow, can you imagine how slow that would be? you would probably have to let it go for about 2 or 3 days straight. i remember back in my 56k days, to download a movie it was about 25-30 hours...

Re: I bought a DC
wow dude, are you really planning to put 11 DC games on your hard drive waiting for an emulator that you have no idea when it will work?
im not gonna kill your hopes and dreams, you certainly have enough hard drive to store those 11 GB...but you would spend soooo much time...... by the way, why exactly dont you want to get the broadband adapter? |

Ill probably just rip the game that will work. I just wanted to be prepared with the proper equipment. And I dont want to buy a BBA because...um......theyre expensive? (are they?!?!?!) I thought they were like $40.... |

Re: I bought a DC
Well ROMstein, congratulationson your new DC, actually for 60 USD, it was a pretty damn good deal, in my case I want to get a DC, but they are too expensive for my tastes, but a DC would worth the price (you know, emus, internet connection, good software to use it on, entire operating systems to work on it) actually, a DC with a keyboard can make a good, cheap PC....

Here are some broadband adapters from ebay.
Broadband Adapter in Box with Brand New Copy of Unreal Tournament ($71) Dreamcast BROADBAND ADAPTER *New* w/extras ($66, see quote for more info) Quote:
Sega Dreamcast Broadband Adapter 10/100 Mbps ($50, used) Sega Dreamcast BROADBAND Adapter in Box! ($41) There is a internet browser that is on ebay too. It is the only one for DC that supports the broadband adapter and is in english. Look for it here (make sure you sort by price, makes it a lot easier to find). It costs about $30-40 on there. |

Resident Evil 2 was also released on the Dreamcast, near the end of its life Capcom chucked a few of its back catalogue onto the system. Its a shame the Dreamcast never took off, one of the reasons I think was because it was not backward compatible with the saturn, this was Sony's ace in the hole because when someone bought a PS2 they already had a massive catalogue of games to play on it. DC was also the first machine that let me watch VCD on my TV.
