Re: I bought a DC

again like i am saying.. to ME i really cant find a reason to buy a dc anymore..

did i forget to mention playing homebrew games fck's up the laser so think twice about playing them ive gone through 3 DCs because of that..

BTW do you know how much it costs to repair the damn thing??

well ebgames charges 70 bucks to repair it....if they still are.

and sega charges a whopping 55 bucks to fix the thing and then sega does something VERY VERY EVIL they put in the new laser that PREVENTS you from playing ANY type of CDR based game

so buy away if you have the cash..

and hushy just hush i was just saying how much the DC costs around me..

dont take my words like the word of god man...jeez

Re: I bought a DC

Depends on which CDs you use to burn the homebrew games... good quality CDs shouldn't harm the laser, I've been using them for a bit more than a year now and I never had such problem...

Re: I bought a DC

Well I know ppl who bought those pirate rips and some of them got their CD lens broken... I gathered from there that CD quality had something to do with harming the CD lens... could be wrong though...

Re: I bought a DC

Well in my country (Argentina) I haven't heard from anyone who using pirate CDs haven't harmed the CD lens... again, maybe the CD quality has something to do with it, but it's a fact that pirate CDs damaged the laser lens of the DC...

Re: I bought a DC

Truth be said I'm not into homebrew games, not much at least... try here:

http://homebrew.dcemulation.com/

for a rather complete source for Original, Ported and Software brews...

Re: I bought a DC

DC is excelent console I play it just as much as my GC. It has aswome games in every genre and cotinues to get more games in japan "boder down" a japanese space shooter was just released last week, there are a few incridible dc homebrew games, and even some homebrew commercial releases like "feet of fury" (www.cagames.com ). and great application like vcd players, mp3 players, operating systems and "perfect" GBC,NES,SMS,and GG emus as well as a not perfect but darn impressive SNES emu. And the sega has done Alot of porting of its dc games, you can get them for less on dc. and some games like Soul Calibour can still hold their own even against there awsome succesors Soul Calibour 2 is great better than the first but not by much, and considering the first game is 4 years old that's impressive, it was ahead of its time. there are my 2 cents

Re: I bought a DC

I remember way back when that ithe dreamcast lens gets damaged because the way you burn it. If you go to dcemulation.com there are some programs that let you compile emus or games. The idea is to use a dummy file data to expand the data so the laser can easily access the info on the cd. Most emu's or illegal games are to small and makes the lens work harder to find the data. thats what i heard way back when on dcemulation.com. Though i never had a problem using emulators on cheap cd's.

Re: I bought a DC

Definately agree. I've had my dreamcast for a long time and I love it. Great games. As for trying to backup your stuff, wasn't there a way to do it with a modified serial cable? I thought about giving it a try once but I see no need. If I need to backup a game I get a buddy of mine to do it.

Good thing about the dreamcast is that you don't always have to use a boot CD. Definately great that the DC is a no-mod system. I love it.
