I can't believe people

Just browsing through the Forums at the Icarus website. I cant believe the people nagging the authors about a release. Come on....it doesn't even have sound yet!! Have they seen the screenshots?? Some things (mostly graphics) are very far from being emulated. Wish people would stop. It's peolple like this that make Cyrus not want to release it.

Just thought it'd be a good topic

Re: I can't believe people

It is annoying how some members of the community seem to think that Emu authors owe them something. I'm gonna say what I always say: If you are that desperate to play a console's games, but the console.

You know what your right. Same with all the other emulators and plugin authors. I mean I wish people (not all) would give them more credit. They are doing this all for free and with extra time. Man some people ... If anyone of those guys are reading this then I congradulate yous and keep up the great work. It is appreciated by many of us!

Re: I can't believe people

I agree with all three of you. Its only due to such stupid people that authors tend to be demotivated.(xev is one good example).
Rather then demotivating authors we should encourage them to continue with their projects and may be come out with big surprise releases when they think its time to do so.

Yeah, I am glad that he is holding off the release until it is ready... I'd rather that the first version be the best it can be. The people nagging him for a release obviously have no respect fo another's work. If people are so crazy about playing Dreamcast they should just buy one for 40 dollars; it is a good deal.

I agree. Like some people talking bout the ngemu game. Well when Kane and I are writing exams we oviousely cant work on it. And plus theres so many decisions to still be made. I can relate to a certain extent. :sleepy: So back off people! Would yopu want a half-done job done on a console? I think not! So why would you want a half-completed emulator. When you release something too soon its usually more of a hassle than the wait. remember that!

Re: I can't believe people

The people who beg for emus to be released are fools, its that simple. Just remember who the people are that make these requests. They are warez kiddies. They feel that everything should be given to them; that they shouldn't have to work for what they get. To any folks like that that are reading this, I say get a job and actually buy the game.

Re: I can't believe people

Warez kiddies is right, what bothers me even more is that these 12-year olds give the emulation community a bad name. Combine them with all the ROMz/Warez sites, add all those 'top 100000 ROMs sites' and you begin to see why some people realy dislike the whole idea of emulation and think we're all a bunch of sleazey criminals...

Not only are emulators free, they are made by the authors for US to use and the author doesn't really benifit (aside from personal enjoyment of such projects), and a lot of effort goes into that dedication to US. Just something I like to remember occasionally.

Ehhh? We would all love to see it released...... Just give it time.... You are better off just buying another Dreamcast if you don't have a top of the line CPU.

Re: I can't believe people

So ask your dead to buy you a new DC. A DC costs about € 50,- ~ € 100,- (complete with games, joypads, memory cards, etc) and games are very easy to come by on for instance Ebay. It's a lot cheaper then to buy the new Pentium 2k4 40Ghz and 512 GB RAM. In other words, the emu won't never be able to get 100% compatibility and/or speed on today's machines.

Well, I'm not waiting on Icarus or any DC emulator for that matter. I find it much better to use my DC on my Sony Widescreen t.v. with my Dolby Digital then on my 17" screen and SB Live 5.1 with crappy boxes on it

I am however very interested to see how he did it. How the core works, etc. ie : from a developers point.

To be on-topic about the "hey-dude-I-want-that-freakin-emu-now-you-biatch-so-I-can-play-the-illegal-isoz-for-free-on-my-pc", shoot them. Problem solved :P

I wish that always worked ^.^;;;;;
Anyhow, So basically I'll have to download them though to emulate the game?(this is...whenever the emu comes out.)

Re: I can't believe people

you people are right, completely right. Authors spend their precious time making these emulators just for the sake of the people like us! Furthermore, they don't charge anything!! in addition, these emulators might be better than the console itself!
We should thank them instead of giving them trouble to make another one?

Re: I can't believe people

Also, it is not like they are JSUT spending time, they are WORKING. Writing an emulator (or any other complicated program) is THOUGH. It requires LOADS of thinking.

Re: I can't believe people

And learning. In order to make an emulator you must first understand the console your making it run for ...

Re: I can't believe people

Well, starting from scratch is about 75% the case with emulators so in fact it's normal

What the hardest part is with writing an emulator is to get proper documentation about the hardware. There are a lot of different documents and/or revisions about the same hardware or console/handheld/etc. If you're lucky! With the new consoles/handhelds/etc the documentation are really pre-mature and that needs the author to digging into the hardware itself

"It's all about the documentation Luke! Then you can procede with feeling the power of the C/C++ code!"
