Your information is old. Since then I'm certain that some people have modified their CD-ROMs to read GD-ROMs, but it's very dangerous. I can say that this is the same basic media as CD-ROM, but special firmware is necessary to correctly use it.

then how could it fit on a cd is it possible you saw a dvd-r? not that i'm doubting you but i have no idea how that could be accomplished, without killing some data (FMV, music ect.)
I raised this question somewhere before too. The only valid explanation I got was that the audio was downsampled and "garbage files" were removed....

This is pure rumour. Nothing solid has been produced to back this up.

Pretty much, yeah.

if they could, they would already have one. This are logical facts on how a gd-rom could run on a cd/dvd-rom drive. If you think it's a waste of time go and play your ps2 instead.

They said if you want to play the game properly, you need a 20 GHz processor

Well, you probably want to rent IBM's Deep Blue to emulate the games

10-15fps on a p4-2.2ghz...
With dynarec hopefully that'll improve nicely and then there's always hle as n64 emulators / ps2 emus used from the go
Pretty much everything in Icarus other than gfx display list processing and gdrom emulation is low-level emulated.
