SNES9x v.1.51 netplay problems

I've been trying to get netplay to work between me and TCOS on Snes9x. We have tested our connection and stuff with Kega, and it worked fine, just a little slow with TCOS's 56k connection. Entered other person's IP Address, both were correct, we both alternated with hosting the server. The connection then became stuck on 0%, not moving anywhere.
When we tried later, it said an error message. If any other info is needed, me or TCOS can provide it.

Yeah, we can't get the thing to work. We were trying it out on Snes9x 1.51 but nothing happens. Probably won't get any help on the subject on a Next Gen emu site though. :/ I hope someone knows how to get it to work, because it would be cool to whip some ass on TMNT IV in Snes9x.

0%? sounds like connection for snes9x is not established. you sure a firewall on either side is not just blocking snes9x ?

I disabled the firewall before trying to connect and that didn't help.

Firewalls were disabled, though wouldn't there be some form of prompt from your Firewall? Mine was on, though I'm pretty sure it wasn't blocking anything. ZoneAlarm is what I've got, and it worked for Kega...

Could it be that TCOS is on a 56k connection and I'm on high-speed?

EDIT: Most recent error

Connection to remote server socket refused: Is there actually a Snes9X server running on the remote machine on this port?

could still be a firewall issue, not sure on which end

Well, now that TCOS switched to high-speed at his gf's house, Kega, which worked before, doesn't even work. There seems to be a problem with our IP's: They both are 192.168.1.105.

Not that I'm aware of. I have alltel highspeed, but I do have a router if that's causing any problems. We're going to try ZSnes later today with ZBattle, hopefully it will work.

setting "zbattle DOT net" as the server MIGHT help pass the handshake. see their site (its not too different from a platform where znes onlineplayers can find people to netplay with, not unlike kaillera)

We finally got Kega to work, it wasn't working when I was stealing someone else's wireless, but I got it to work when used her legit internet. Snes9x and Zbattle didn't work though. I think that the netplay is Snes9x 1.51 is broken. It was greyed out in earlier versions but not in 1.51. Maybe because 1.51 is an unnoficial build and it wasn't fixed before the release. I really don't know what's the problem with it though.

Yep, that's one thing that I made sure of before starting.

In the latest ZSNES version, netplay is greyed out as well.

I prefer not to use ZSNES because of the interface. Trying to navigate through it is annoying since the pointer doesn't move like it does in Windows. It seems like many people agree that the interface needs to be changed (yes, I already know why the interface is the way it is, it's about portability), but if you try to tell them that over at the official forum, you'll get flamed for it by long time ZSNES users who have gotten used to the old way.

windows interfaces dont need 'portability' to linux :P
you sure both are using your public IPs, and not LAN ones ?

Ya, external IP's and everything. Like TaCOS said, Kegas works fine with what we're doing. I think the netplay is just messed up in version 1.51. Is the emulator even still being worked on?
