As for me, the SNES, but man, were the sonic games on the Genesis fun!

Ok. As for the sound,The SNES blows the Genesis out of the water. You see, SNES was actually nearly as advanced as a Sound Blaster 64. Why? The chip supported an early form of soundfont or DLS (DownLoadable Sounds). That meant that the SNES was about 3+ years ahead of Creative Labs, in the sound technology field. If you've ever used one of the SPC700 DSP emulators, then you can appreciate the sound quality it had compared to 1990-era computer sound chips.

It had an anologue low-pass filter, which gave everything better bass, and the chip even had the ability to do reverb effects.

Now, I know that sound isn't everything in a game, but that's just my take on the hardware aspect of that system.

Oh, yeah. I forgot to add something.

I'd like to see the Genesis try to do a rendition off FF6's "Dancing Mad". Well, the fourth tier to be exact. You can't get any crazier than that in a song on the SNES!

And, I bet if you compressed the instrument samples good enough, SNES could play the songs from the PSX FF's. It'd be cool to hear the SNES play FF8's "The Extreme", or FF9's "The Dark Messenger" (I swear, they took the drum beat from "We Will, We Will Rock You!")

Definitely genesis. Oh yeah its spelled Genesis, not GEnsis. Genesis started the sega saga, which includes some great games theyve made over the years. And even though Sonys bought Sega out still they make great sports games, like NFL 2K2 for PS2. I think Nintendo ,SNES, and N64 are good too, but Genesis is a classic.

Genesis was not the start. What about the Master System? They were in the Arcades before that too, IIRC

I vote for the Snes. They had more better games. They had Chrono Trigger (My alltime fav RPG), Mario World, F-Zero, Megaman and the list goes on. But that doesn't mean I dont like Genesis. I just loved Sonic. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my fav. The best sports game in my opinion was NHL 95. That was just so fun. i also liked Outrun 2019 on genesis.

depends on which ff2 and ff3 versions you are talking about. FF2 and FF3 Japanese version are for Nes, and FF2 and FF3 English version are for Snes.
To make it clearer, FF2 and FF3 English versions = FF4 and FF6 Japanese versions.

Genesis or Super Nintendo

Owning both consoles I can't really say which I like best. Until the Final Fantasies hit the Playstation I can't say I really cared for them. Streets of Rage 2 was the only good one (come on number 3 was crap).

Also as far as I know Sony has not bought out Sega, if they had I doubt you would see Sonic games on the Gamecube and Gameboy Advance. Due to its continued faliure as a hardware manufacturer Seha has decided to concentrate on making games.

I also have to say, this is only my opinion, if you name a game type Sega has made the best (that is the games Sega made, not 3rd party licenced games). Ie RPG the Shining Force Series, Scrolling Beat 'em Ups Streets of Rage 2.

In conclusion, after my off topicy rate, I wouyld like to say this, If I said I prefered SNES some one would say that Genesis was better. Say Genesis some one would say SNES, its all down to personal taste.

Sorry for rambling on and next time I promise not to drink before posting.

The Master System started Sega's console business.

Otherwise, as I pointed out before (somewhere in the boards), I found a game that Sega made or published for the Apple ][ a long time ago. I don't know if that's earlier than the arcades.
For those with long memories, the game was Zaxxon. You know, that diagonal scrolling shoot'em up where you can raise/lower the ship, pretty cool. I got the disk image and it runs on AppleWin

Ok, the point is, Sega rulez

Sony never bought out Genesis. Far from it. Sonic Adventure 2, and NBA 2K2 are both out for GameCube. I am not a sports nut, but I really loved Sonic Adventure II.
