Snes is better but Genesis was also very good. When u could play Super Mario on the first console you could play Sonic on the other, when u could play Donkey Kong u could play Vectorman, genesis had 32x and SegaCD (i think) whereas snes had a chip which could handle some 3d games (not actually 3d,but both doom and mario kart were perfect),Mk series and generally beat em ups were better on snes whereas Fifa and Nba live series where better on Genesis.I enjoyed their games but i still remember playing more with Snes rather than playing with Genesis. Those days...........man it was just perfect

I go with Samor. Sonic was THE game, but SNES was much better than Genesis in terms of hardware and the quality of the games (graphics and specially sound). Not that I don't like Genesis, but somehow SNES became much more popular. Popularity does not mean much, but still SNES has goodly surpassed Genesis.

It would also have to go on where you come from, face it the genesis (Megadrive 1&2 in UK) was never that popular in japan, in the US it was pretty level with the SNES and in the UK the Megadrive was some what more popular then the SNES.

I say the Genesis was better. Look at all the games on it. Games that came out on both systems was always better gameplay on genesis. But Nintendo always had sonic on its gameboy.

I would say Snes is a lot better.
Look at its games, FF series, TOP, Star Ocean, BOF, Chrono Trigger, etc. They are just awesome!

id say that both consoles were good.
Street fighter on the snes was better than on the megadrive, Mortal kombat series was better on the megadrive than it was on the snes etc.
Id say sega megadrive made some excellent games on there last though, like toy story as an example. Heck people still sell megadrive here in the shops for £20.

forgot to mention that the snes cpu was increased when certain special chips in the cartriges were used like the FX chip which increased snes cpu speed up to 10.5 Mhz and the FX2 chip which increased the cpu speed to 21.0 Mhz!

It didn't increase the speed of the CPU, it just did work for the CPU.

The genesis also had such bundled chips, such as the VR (it was used in Virtua Racing among other things), which was extremely complex, and to this day is unemulated.

I don't know much about Genesis. Which console are you saying was never emulated, because I have a Genesis emulator (of some sort) with some Tales of Phantasia games on it.

Oops, my bad. The name of the chip was the SVP, Sega Virtua Processor.

Don't know where I got VR from

I have a SNES and I just played it 2 days ago. Her in the cold north the snes was much more popular than the megadrive. Popularity is important, who had money to buy all the games the wanted? and if all your friends have it you'll probably buy it too (none of my friends had it though). Games like Chrono Trigger, FF3(6), Megaman, Seiken Densetsu 3 etc. was really god and I still play them. The genesis had Sonic, THE game. Sonic has always been good and will always be superior to Mario (Mario Land 3 is the best next to the N64 and Mario Kart)

By the way, from which game is the top right picture on mrc.mirrorz.com taken from?

uhh... lizard wonders wut we r comparin' here.
juz the system specs? or the games for either console?
newayz... lizards go w/ snes.
close call tho. tzzzzzz--
me think genesis is much better at fast paced games, meanin' the system is faster in general, tho itz sound chip iz a peice o cr@p. snes on the other hand suffers on speed but displays much more colors on screen(eventho fewer in pixels. i think normal snes games r at 256x256 while itz 320x240 for genesis... me prob'ly wrong). and itz audio is much better.
ahh, only if there were juz as many games for genesis(md) as there was for snes, i would so definitely choose genesis.
the only games i played on genesis were the sonics and the street of rage series.
i wonder y alotta game developers went for snes instead of genesis when, as i heard, snes had an unbelievable high license charge?
