emulator question
i cant seem to get my head around this. say the likes of ea sports make games for consoles, they would need to have some sort of emulator to test the game before release. or do they make the game in pc format, then send the game off to sony and they convert it to playstation 2 themselves. if game developers make games they must have an emulator of some sort so there must be a leak some were. like someone that used to work for sony or ea sports that has some knowledge of this top secret stuff. anyone have any views on this? |

Admittedly I'm not 100% sure on the dev process of games, but afaik its more along the lines of the developers make the games, using special development versions of the console in question, which are then sent of to be put on disc, somewhere along that time Sony "sign" the code so that it's official. Thb I'm not sure, but as far as I'm aware there aren't any secret emulators used by devs, there is one but I cant remember the name of it, and it was for SNES games I believe. Like I said I don't know 100%, so anyone feel free to correct me.

It would be easier to use a "special", maybe modded Console rather than a emulator. Or at least a computer with the same architecture and at least similar components. Emulators for this purpose are not practical in this scenario.

the SDK they use is licenced from Sony, and basically bridges PC-based development with direct testing on nonlocked consoles with basic debug functions display (the rest's checked in the dev PCs) they know beforehand how to restrict their games' content so it fits optimized on the actual console. Last time I checked, it was pretty restrictive compared to xbox and gcube, 3d stuff-wise

About testing, Capcom for example, ported their PS3/X360 engine to PC only to test, so they could debug easier and faster. Later they decided to actually release it, but the first idea was to use it ONLY to debug. Reference about this fact here.
