questions about PS2 mod chips

since there's another thread about it, i guess we're free to discuss this stuff...

so i went to lik sang to check it out, and they have these version 4 chips or something, that don't need any gameshark.

is that the only one?
where do i learn more about it? is it cheaper than getting an old chip plus a gameshark?

what about messiah... what's the deal with that one?

its politically correct to say they are used to play backups

and most of them can play other region games also
