Running homebrew on NES
Is there any possiblity to run homebrew on NES? Maybe writeable cartridges, etc. I donloaded "Pokemon Gold" for NES made by Mars and I think that it'd look better on 60Hz tube Anyway, games on old, good PCs look slightly better for me

I've always wanted to do the same thing. I think I've heard about someone making one and was going to mass produce it but I don't think anything ever came of it. If anyone else knows of one, I would love to know of one too. But for now, I think that the closest thing that you can do to play your homebrew roms on a TV is to use Nestopia and S-Video out to the TV. That's what I do and it's pretty authentic when I use the NTSC filter. :/

I've seen NES flash carts, they have little SD cards or whatever and you can stick the cartridge into your NES and play ROM's. I have my old TV on the same desk as my computer though, I can even do TV-out while I'm on the computer, no need for the real console anymore

I have 3 NESes but I would love to play some homebrew on one of them to get that "authentic" feel to it. You have that link hushy? As for IMBNES, I don't have my PS modded so that wouldn't work for me. I use the S-Video to composite adapter that I got from my local Best Buy for around $25 bucks so I can hook the video up to my TV that doesn't have S-Video input (it seems to have gotten a little cheaper since I got mine a few years ago). Pretty expensive for a little adapter but well worth it because it works great. Then I got this L/R channel audio splitter from RadioShack as well as some converters to go with it. Now they have this better one that already has the converter in it. ![]() I have to admit that GBA games look really good on the TV with the adapter. Especially Minish Cap and Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion with some video filters applied.

Here you can find some instructions for building a Reprogrammable NES cartridge. Seems fairly tough but it's possible. Edit: Were you talking about this hushy?

That's the one that I was originally talking about. The one that Shendo posted was pretty expensive, $135 bucks. You can get a GBA flash cart for cheaper than that. I prefer stuff that uses SD though, since I have a buttload of them. I would think that there would be more NES flash carts out there since it's the most popular classic console out there and there's so much homebrew for it.

I've an old 14" German TV (with Chinese tube ). It has absolutely broken sound processor (like there was no sound signal, only pic), doesn't have sound even after reprogramming sound (we have different sound system from Germany). So it's perfect for plugging console, while having speakers of course But when I plug in a PC, picture is small, black and white and illeglible. Humph. The setting tools aren't free, so maybe I must buy a new one?
