Where do you live? I know that GameCube is still 50 pounds less in Europe than the Xbox, even though it isn't out yet. Nintendo has been going right for Microsoft's throat, by aggressively cutting the price on the GameCube.

As for your local dealer... *frown*. Tell him that you want it for your cousin, who wants to play all the little kid's games, like Resident Evil. (Or if you don't want to piss him off, Mario.)

Seriously, the Xbox is dying very fast. Many European retailers won't touch it, and sales in Japan are just a little bit below the Wonderswan color. It's still doing moderately well in America, but even here it is losing steam. I wouldn't think it was a good idea to buy one. I have made no secret about my hatred for the PS2, but I am a reasonable man. I will tell you that with the PS2 and GameCube combined, there will be nothing that you can't live without. Xbox has Halo, but even that is going to PC. I just can't see anyone willing to pay that much money for a dead console. I would take a Dreamcast over Xbox any day.

I live in Pakistan.
May be you've heard of Karachi, the biggest city of Pakistan.
I had a survey for about a month and I found out that there are total of 500 PS2 owners, 5 Xbox Owners and no GC owners.
There is a big problem here. Piracy level here is very high and there is no future of piracy on the GC and Xbox. That's why the GC or Xbox aren't as popular. Xbox costs around 40000 RS (1rs = 60$) and PS2 costs about 17500Rs. GC is still not available. DC is still a hot console here. The softwares cost 3000Rs each and the pirated versions cost 100/Cd and 500/DVD.
But I get my video game supplies from New Jersey USA, as my bro is living there.

Ah, piracy, I see. Yeah, if that's your thing... then the GameCube wouldn't be the logical console to buy. I would NEVER pirate a Nintendo game that I couldn't get any other way though. It just goes against my ethics. (Although pirating Sony or MS games are fine in my books. ) I don't even run N64 or GBA emulators on my computer other than demoing Japanese games that I might consider importing.

Well, good luck to you if you get a GameCube. If piracy isn't your thing, then it will serve you well. Resident Evil just came out here in Canada, and it is a great game.
