The PS3 is one of the main reasons I hate Sony as much as I do right now. They deliberately shortened the lifespan of their console because they know that the GameCube outclasses theirs. It's a really cheap move, and does nothing but hurt the consumer.
Think of it this way though. The PS2 has been out for two years, and it only has a handful of decent games. The GameCube's lineup for this year alone outclasses anything that the PS2 has to offer to this date. |

I fail to agree with that. FFX, and MGS:2, the entire reasons I bought the PS2 aren't coming to the Cube, and neither IMO is anything that outclasses it, at least for a good long time.

...Now that Namco has anounced that Soul Calibur 2 wil also come out for the PS2, my stance on the Game Cube has officially changed; I'm probably not going to get a GC for a very very long time :eyes:

Damn Ninja, do you work for Nintendo or something?! Hmmm... I dunno, out of that list the only ones I'd be interested in are FFU, Metroid Prime, and Zelda anyway... not like I plan on buying a GameCube or a PS2 for that matter though

I just realized that I had a custom rank, so I changed it accordingly.
![]() And no, I don't work for Nintendo... yet. I am just a dedicated fanboy, and I have made myself quite familiar with the history and the future of the industry. As far as I'm concerned, the PS2 is sony's N64. The similarities are just uncanny. Btw, You might want to check out Eternal Darkness. It is the game that I would gladly fork over the money for a GameCube for if I hadn't already.

I can't wait to see how Metroid Prime will be. I don't have Gamecube and I don't think I will get it anytime soon but I just wonder how it will be. But the only thing I may not like about it is that there is a first person view.

You forgot my favourite ganre.......WWF!
Wrestlemania X8 is too coming out on GC, but it only looks good on it. It feels pathetic, like XBOX's Raw. Smackdown 3 realeased 6 months before Raw dominates the wrestling genre. OK non of those games interest me. Thanks for telling that those games are the ONLY ones for this year. Now I won't buy my second console. As for PS2 games, I don't have to worry about this year's releases as I have to catch up last years ![]() MGS2 Deus Ex MI4 GT3 A Spec GTA3 Smackdown 3 FFX (Yeah FFXI too) Resident Evil Code Veronica X Twisted Metal Black Fifa's NBA's Cricket 2k2 Devil May Cry Max Payne Aren't these enough? Wan't more? Too much greed ain't a good thingy |

Seyed Fawad, A lot of those games are sports games. I didn't include any sports games for GameCube, since the genre is TOTALLY unappealing to me. I don't even keep track of the sports games. But a few things on your list are glaring at me. Max Payne and Deus Ex are both PC games, and don't really translate to the console that well. Nevertheless, if you think that they are better on the console, that's your decision. Myself, I think it's a horrible idea.
Here would be my list of GameCube games worth buying that I missed last night. Already Released SSX Tricky Pikmin Sonic Adventure II Rogue Leader Bloody Roar 007: Agent Under Fire Super Smash Bros Melee Super Monkey Ball XG3 Extreme G Racing Wave Race: Blue Storm Tony Hawk 3 Dark Summit Sports Game Released (Noting my total lack of interest in the genre, these are the games that IGNCube lists with high ratings) NFL Blitz 20-02 NBA 2K2 Sega Soccer Slam All-Star Baseball 2003 NBA Street NBA Courtside 2002 FIFA Soccer 2002 Major League Soccer Madden NFL 2002 Sports Game Forthcoming (Noting my total lack of interest in the genre, these are the games that IGNCube lists with high expectations.) Virtua Striker 3 ver.2002 Burnout Black & Bruised ESPN MLS Extra Time 2002 WWF WrestleMania X8 2002 FIFA World Cup Games I missed yesterday Burnout Bomberman Generations Spider-Man Glass Rose (GameCube's answer to DMC) Minority Report The Hobbit Mafia (Think GTA4.) Batman: Dark Tomorrow (Whatever will happen at E3. Expect to see some 1080, Perfect Dark footage, and whatever secret games Nintendo is making. Keep in mind that the games I listed are only the ones that are currently scheduled for this year. There are plenty more that are looking good for 2003) |

Wait a min, is there a bug or something?
I posted here before player x and now I can't c it? OK NINJA can you show me the place where I can find some info or screens of Mafia as IGN don't have it. U said that Mafia is like GTA4 but ign states it as simulation. I don't get it. Whatever games you list there, it won't make any difference for me, The games u listed almost 50% games will also be on PS2 (according to the second list). U can't say that PS2 is "SONY'S N64". Nintendo made a big mistake in N64 by making it catridge based, so there was lack of space there. Sony didn't make such mistakes and there is no comparison of PS2 with either XBOX and Gamecube cos the PS2 was released almost two years before the two. How can you compare a two year old hardware with the latest tech? Its like comparison of TNT2 and Geforce2! Nintendo has HTH competition with XBOX and it outclasses XBOX completely. PS2's HTH comparison was only with DC. I can't convince u that PS2 is better than GC as u can't convince me that GC is better than PS2 as we look at it with different perspectives and have different tastes of games. I like instant action quick games like sports, WWF, TM Black, GTA3. Those three are my exclusives (cos of which I bought PS2) alongwith RE CVX and MGS2. I am not a fan of the FF series and I was sorry to hear that RE series will be GC exclusive, but there will be other alternatives for RE like SH2 and DMC and Dino Crisis 3. Check out PS2.IGN.COM and you'll another WWF game in the making !

SF, Here's what IGN Q&A has to say about Mafia.
Quote:
I would call PS2 Sony's N64. The very concept of it is flawed. In the beginning, it was incredibly difficult to program for. The linux kits have helped that a lot, but it doesn't change that the system is still incredibly complicated, and requires a great deal of time and effort to get performance comparable to the GameCube or Xbox, which is pretty much required these days. What really brought the N64 down, was the lack of 3rd party support. The cartridge system was responsible for part of that, but I would think that most of it was how incredibly hard the N64 was to program for. And hey, the N64 was only about 1/2 as complicated as the PS2. I'm also sure that you know that Sony is going to prematurely release the PS3 to keep competitive right? How does that choice make you feel? PS2 may not have HTH competition with GameCube right now, but that time is definately coming. PS2 has over a years head start on the GameCube. It's not going to be easy for Nintendo to catch up, but it will happen. So far the only AA titles Nintendo has put out are SSBM and Rogue Leader. But a few AAA titles are coming this summer. Don't forget that. I am sure that I cannot convince you that Gamecube is better, and that isn't really my intention. I understand the mentality of the fanboy perfectly. In my whole life, I have only converted one devout fanboy, and I don't really think that it is a task that I can repeat, so I don't try. I just try to educate people on their options. As far as Dino Crisis 3, DMC, or probably even SH3, I wouldn't count on them not coming to GameCube. GameCube now has Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil. I really don't see how Konami could possibly think that the survival horror market would be elsewhere. (I understand that SH is not survival horror, nor is Eternal Darkness, but their gameplay and setting puts them in that category). As far as MGS goes, Hideo Kojima has stated many times that he wants to do something for GameCube, and his next project will be GameCube based. Myself, I thought that MGS2 was a good game, but it was just way too much like the first one, only not as good. I am eager to find out what Kojima has up his sleeve. Sorry, but I hate WWF games. I do hear IGN constantly Raving about Wrestlemania X8 though. |

lol, i want games, not in a year, not in two years, i want them NOW...
and to be realistic the only console that got sunlight at the end of the tunnel right now is the PS2, sure the Gamecube WILL eventually get many good games, but this takes time! on the PS2, all the awesome games are just about to get released, at the end of this year i will be counting at least 20 must-have games for my PS2, while GC has maybe 3 and xbox stilldontwanttobelieveithowcouldtheydothattomyfavo ritegamesomeonewilldieforthatthatsapromise 1 game. but while the GC at least has a future and i am surely going to buy it when some more time has passed, theres absolutely NOTHING that will ever make me buy an XBOX. nothing but crappy american software that will be ported to the PC one by one anyway. btw, i just got an interessting thought when reading through the posts, i highly doubt microsoft would let the PS3 be the strongest system for long, so probably they are going to come up with the most expensive upgrade ideas sooner or later themselves

Well, the Xbox is a PC in a different looking box. I have no doubt that it will be upgraded to some extent in the future.
As for the GameCube, well, I find that there are too many games to buy right now. I have a copy of Rogue Leader that I bought on the launch day. I plan to buy a copy of Resident Evil when it comes out, but I don't think I can afford it. I also have to get Tactics Ogre for GBA soon. I just don't have that much money as it is. I am not ready to debate whether the PS2 or the GameCube has the brighter future, but I remember that if I had said that the GameCube had a very bright future 6 months ago (which I did. ) I am sure that nobody here would have believed me. Now that a few games from Nintendo's lineup have been announced, I am starting to get a bit of credibility anyway. And thank god the classic statements of how "kiddie" Nintendo is have finally died down. It was totally unfounded statements like that that drove me out of my mind. |

Gamecube is good now for those low budget users who can wait for a month or two just by looking at what's gonna come. I say that Sony has a lot of guts by selling an inferior technology at a higher price. For me, who knows when the games have come out, after reading the reviews, I may even get a GC for myself.
And this is my advice to you; Don't rely too much on the WORDS of the DEVELOPERS. Try getting infos on games from other critics. I know all the hype when Raw was going to be released on XBOX. Even IGN gave 9.1, but that game sure sucks! So Gamecube will eventually become the best when its games come out. Till then the PS2 dominates and when GC becomes the best, PS2 will have already passed 3/4 of its life. I'll then sell the PS2 for at least 175$ (350$ maybe including the games) and then buy a GC without much loss! How's that? |
