Unless M$ have some games in hiding, the X-Box is as good as dead.

And thats why you should get a ps2 coz u always get the new games first. Then they port it on other consoles. Chances are if it doesnt sell well on the ps2 what make's you think it would sell better on a gamecube. That's what happened to the tony hawk series, n64 owners have to wait for it to be ported.

(and yes id be one of those loonies who'd be buying age of empires if it got ported. Online games .period.)

Tony Hawk 3 was a launch title for GameCube. If you like Online games, then why aren't you getting Phantasy Star Online for GameCube? I'm sure it would make a better online game. The only reason PS2 is getting games earlier right now is that it is the newer console. As time goes on, I think you will start seeing this less and less. Take Skies of Arcadia for example. It will be released later than May 2003 for PS2, but it should be out for GameCube by the end of the year. Reason? PS2 is a ***** to program for.

The Xbox has plenty of things going for it, like...um...Halo! And...um...ok, I'd better get off that topic. I was just suggesting that if you were going to buy a system for the fact that it could play DVDs (which is a pretty lame reason to buy a video game console), you might as well go with an Xbox, since it might be better at doing so (at least I haven't heard as many complaints about it, but that might be because there aren't a lot of people with Xboxes out there).

my world crumbled a few days ago when i read that toe jam and earl will be XBOX exclusive, i still can't believe it ;_;
all these years of waiting and now this, just makes me hate microsoft even more, it's like they took the heroes of my youth and raped them!
some day i'll have revenge!
let's not forget, at the moment the XBOX sells in japan about as well as the wonderswan color, and if you now say "eh, whats that?", well, thats exactly my point

> PS2 is a ***** to program for.

that argument is really getting old, it has already been a long time since the release of the console, although i think it was an error form sony not to make any libraries for them. Enough time has passed inorder for the game makers to make their own, so it really shouldn't be an excuse right now, we're way pass the learning curve.

I dont have the money to buy a new console. Even if I do get it, I wouldn't have a lot of money left over for games. But if I would, I'd choose gamecube cause it has a bunch of good games. Mainly Super Smash Bros. That was my favorite game on N64. I would also get GC for the Zelda game that will come out for it even if it has that childish look. As long as it has good gameplay and music, I will play it.

Well, it still manages to bring about many comments from developers on how much they hate it. I wouldn't say that it is a really easy system to develop for, and it most CERTAINLY isn't as easy to develop for as the GameCube.

That is a poor arguement as aparently the X-Box comparatively a piece of piss to program for, as lots of developers are used to programming for DirectHEX, yet what is the future of that system looking like?

There is a lot more going on that just that though.

PS2 - largest userbase. Difficult to program for, but being that the fanbase is so large, developers put up with it.

GCN - large userbase, if not as large as PS2's. Easy to program for, making it a great place to port games to, as well as develop original games.

Xbox - small userbase, American company. Japanese developers are not enthusiastic about developing for an American console. Generally ignored due to the small userbase and nationality.

Those are pretty much what the deciding factors are. The PS2 is obviously the most attractive console because of its massive amount of fans leftover from the PSone era. Developers just put up with its difficulties. In the Xbox's case, it doesn't really matter how easy to it is to develop for. If nobody buys the games, then there is no reason to make the games.

There is still the fact that people still see the cube as a kiddy console owing to the N64 era. that is dying, but is still a factor

That's true. I really have no idea how the N64 got that reputation in the first place, but I guess that it's irrelevant now. Anyway, I don't think that reputation will really last much longer except with the most diehard Sony fanboys.

I know that a lot of developers have the same problem with Nintendo, in that they blindly jumped on the kiddy bandwagon, but hopefully Capcom and Silicon Knights will shred that once and for all. After all, Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness are ONLY for GameCube. There are also some rumors that Rockstar is rethinking their original statement about not releasing GTA3 for GameCube. We will see in the next month at E3. That would be a big step forward in Nintendo's direction.

In order of the number of kiddy games.

1) Xbox
2) PS2
3) GameCube

Seriously, if you think that Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness are kiddie, then you must have had one strange childhood. Myself, when I think of kiddie games, I think of games like.... Barbie and Ken's 3D Adventure (PS2). I can't really think of any kiddie games on Gamecube, except for Tarzan. I don't really know about Tarzan, because I never played it, but I am not really a big Disney fan.

if you have the money to waste, buy all of them... each console have great games to choose from... its your type of genre of the game you wanna play.

Ok... for the rating XBox is indeed a powerful console and future games are coming on the way. PS2 owns the large database of games at present while N64... well it's not my type but if you love the Nintendo system... then its for you

N64 is a dead system. Of course you aren't going to want one.

As for Xbox, it has Halo. That's about it.

PS2 does have a large amount of games, but some of them are games like Fantavision, or Barbie and Ken's 3D Adventure. It really only has a handful of good games, and the GameCube will be caught up by the end of the year.

If you have the money, a PS2/GameCube combo would be your best bet. I don't think that there's anything on Xbox you will be missing.

The Good:
PS2 can play over 4000 PSX games as well PS2 games
XBox has better grafix and don't have slowdowns
G.Cube has cute games
The PC can and will eventuaily play have all the games created for all platforms

The Bad:
PS2 games are too numerous to list and most of them have slowdowns
XBox is too expensive and too little games
G.Cube is so cute until I need a barf bag
The PC is expensive and hard to setup

The Ulgy:
PS2 don't have a preloaded network system included

Right.... I have to say that your descriptions are a little more than innacurate.

The GameCube can perform just as good as the Xbox.

Last I heard, nobody was describing Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Agent Under Fire, or Tony Hawk 3 a "cute" game.

Let get this straight forward. XBOX's graphics are better than GC a bit, and a lot better than PS2s. But XBOX sucks (everyone knows why. Nice try Bill, but u have to do better

PS2 is no longer a hot console. C'mon its two years old! Look at GC and XBOX about 6 months old. No comparison. It is just that even being technically outclassed by XBOX and GC, PS2 has a lot of good games in addition to backward compatibilty of PS1 games.

If anyone is going to buy a console today or after today, he should get Gamecube. PS2 is already half way through its life.

Then again comes this point, "If I buy a PS2 now, so when a PS3 comes out, I 'll play my PS2 games in better quality plus there will be other great PS3 games."

Its a difficult choice no doubt. But you won't be dissapointed even if u buy a PS2 or a Gamecube. YOU WILL DEFINETLY BE DISSAPOINTED IF YOU GET AN XBOX"

It depends on you. Remember that PS3 ain't no joke. It is sheduled to be released in 2005. There is also some point of virtual reality games there.
But again comes the price tags. Spend 200 bucks on GC and play it for at least 4 years from now on and then after that think about the next gen.
OR Spend 300 Bucks on PS2, play it for 3 years waiting for PS3 and when it comes out again shed 300-400 bucks on it.
