Exactly.. We want and not we need.. We don't need a psx1 emu, but we wanted one, then got one, then several others, now we need the one we got.. I sure can't go back to playing psx games on a real psx..

Yep...a Game Cube Emulator would be a great idea.....
But i don't think we are already prepared for PS2 emulators yet....

I am not sure, probably ps2 emulation is far too away for the moment. I am just curious if anyone has successfully extracted the PS2 BIOS? How big is its size?

This webpage also describes some of the details of PS2 hardwares:

The BIOS ROM of the first PS2 model is dumped, it's about 4MB in size, and is supposedly partially compressed.

4MB BIOS file? What the....

It sounds like Sony put many more instructions into PS2 man... harder to emulate for sure.

Thanks for the info.

Nezzar!

Uh yeah.
I don't need a ps2emu since my lousy pc would not be able to handle it anyway. Additionally I'll get a PS2 in a month or two. If there should be a ps2emu in this time may be I'll try it...

I want a PS2 emu, but only because PS2 repair bills (the famous lens price quote that gives you mini heart attacks ) are expensive.

Why repair bills?! The console should come with a warranty.

The flat rate for PS2 repairs of any sort is something like $110. Plus shipping, tax, diagnostic fees, it comes to around $130-150..

Ridiculous, really.

Depending on one's view, an emu might be needed, or wanted.

I have a really old Atari 1040STfm around and unfortunately, all the floppies I had got damaged from moisture (I shouldn't have left them in the garage! ). Except one, but even that seems kind of damaged. So, how to play those old relics again? Emu was the choice. There are programs that can copy ST images back to floppies, but you must have double-density double-sided 3 1/2 floppies. Since the only ones I have are damaged, and high-density floppies don't work with the programs, my only solution was to find an emu that ran the games. I'd rather play them on the Atari, but sometimes there's no other choice. (note that I don't use the machine a lot, but sometimes I spend an hour or two playing arkanoid 2... )

In the PS2's case... I think there's no need for the emu, although it would be nice to have one. And even if someone's trying to code it, that will take some years to accomplish.

- 4MB bios - for the EURO/US version of the PS2 or the JAP version? /me thinks european/us bios is bigger, as all the dvd movie software is already on the machine... for jap version a memcard was needed. correct me if I'm wrong!
